Job Details
The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Information Technology department as a Data Architect. Reporting to the Manager, Applications and Data Services, this position will be responsible for the overall data requirements of the organization, its data architecture and data models, and the design of databases and data integration solutions that support the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead corporate spatial and relational data architecture, including databases and infrastructure standards.
- Set and maintain the City’s data architecture vision, standards, and documentation.
- Develop and govern data management standards, quality practices, and lifecycle processes.
- Lead the City’s Open Data Program and supporting technologies.
- Develop and manage data acquisition and sharing agreements (e.g., Pictometry, LiDAR, air photo partnerships, utilities) in accordance with City policies.
- Liaise with other City departments, the IT Department, and vendors to understand business needs and translate them into actions through operational tasks and projects.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, or related field with 5 years experience, or 2-year Post Secondary diploma with 7 years experience.
- Knowledge of progressive system and database management preferably in government operations.
- Experience in data architecture and data modelling, including enterprise data management processes, data integration, translation, analytics, and decision‑support solutions.
- Experience with Esri data management and Enterprise GIS architecture, business requirements analysis, data acquisition programs, and contract or agreement management is preferred.
- Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Hours of Work
- We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
- Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Compensation
- The salary ranges from $96,878.86 - $119,233.92 per year, including a comprehensive benefits package with a flexible spending account, pension plan, and accrued paid vacation starting at 3 weeks per year.

- Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.
