Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT
The International Activity Assistant oversees the day-to-day activities within the established schedule of events for groups of international students at Camosun College. This position will require working at off-campus sites in Victoria as well as at the college. In addition, this job may require working evenings and weekends.
TYPICAL DUTIES
• Assists with organization and coordination of department events such as International Education Week, program orientations, welcome/farewell receptions, closing ceremonies, student social events (ski trip, end-of-semester activity, etc);
• Participates in the creation of events involving social, inter-cultural and active learning opportunities for international students
• Makes arrangements and follows up on program activity bookings, transportation arrangements, on-campus room bookings and audio-visual requirements;
• Leads program participants during scheduled social, cultural and recreational activities both on and off-campus;
• Acts as primary contact during off-campus activities;
• Ensures that all equipment and supplies for program activities are organized and ready for use;
• Sets up and maintains program resource room and orders supplies as needed;
• Creates and maintains program first-aid kits;
• Working with department staff, participates in the creation of information to publish related to upcoming events;
• Provides clerical support and assists managers with the coordination of various pilot projects or events for prospective and current international students;
The International Activity Assistant will also provide support in one or more of the following areas;
Customized & Short Term Programs
• Participates in the creation of participant orientation packages
• Assists with initial participant arrival and final departure as directed by supervisor;
• Assists with daily check-in and check-out by participants and/or homestay hosts
• Organizes with group leaders the delivery of daily announcements to participants;
• Assists the Project Assistant in daily operations of the group
Peer Connections Student Program
• Working with Counsellors (faculty), leads and supports peer leaders in the International Peer Helper/Mentor Program.
• Assists the Peer Connections group with organizing and running student activities throughout the school year
• Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity. Qualifications Grade plus one year of post secondary education with emphasis in communications or intercultural issues and one year of experience which includes six months in a recreational/student leadership environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have excellent organizational skills and experience using MS Office suite including spreadsheets, labels and mail merge documents. Must be able to work independently and relate well to college employees, international students and the general public. Must have demonstrated ability to work effectively with second-language speakers and have an awareness of intercultural issues.
Second languages preferred: Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Mandarin, or German Supporting Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Recommendations Capabilities The core capabilities are required for all positions at the college.
