A Technical Training Instructor is responsible for identifying training requirements for both internal and external customers related to the Caterpillar product line. The instructor must then schedule, develop and present all the necessary courses, traveling to customer sites or branches as required to ensure continued development of Toromont’s and our customers workforce. Working both independently and as a team player, ensure Toromont and our customers technical support staff are well prepared to execute safe, efficient, professional, and comprehensive repairs.

In a typical day, YOU will:
- Develop, schedule and present training courses and seminars related to Cat’s machine product line for customers and technicians.
- Remain current with the Cat machine product line through both self-development and formal training as required in order to stay up to date with ever changing technology.
- Communicate on an ongoing basis with the other Service Training Instructors, the Apprenticeship Training Coordinator,
- Shop Supervisors, PSM’s, sales personnel and customers to identify training requirements and develop/maintain course schedules.
- Schedule, utilize and maintain the training departments classrooms, training bay, tools, projectors and equipment to ensure sound management of our resources.
- Perform training department administrative tasks, including preparing evaluations and reports and providing feedback to service leadership on technician development.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the Service Training Supervisor.
Must-haves for this role:
- College diploma in Heavy Equipment, Truck and Coach or equivalent training and experience.
- Provincial Heavy Equipment Certification, Mechanics license or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing Caterpillar equipment, preferably with experience as lead hand, field service technician or other higher profile position.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and Caterpillar Service Software
