Job description

Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

As a Raw Materials Developer 1, you develop a variety of textiles that significantly impact the success of the end product. You learn from the best in the industry through hands-on experience and observation, and you provide support across various product categories, timelines, and sourcing strategies. You play a key role in the end-to-end materials development process and have the opportunity to drive process improvements and efficiencies along the way.

Meet Your Future Team:

The Materials Development Team drives sustainable innovation, delivering performance solutions that exceeds our guest’s expectations. We create concise materials palettes for each product category that can ultimately become brand icons for many years to come. Our success comes from our knowledge, standing true to the brand, and building strong partnerships with suppliers.

If you were the Raw Materials Developer 1 now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Coordinating the intake process of material developments, third party materials testing, and the day-to-day functions of the raw materials development team
  • Maintaining the textile materials library (both virtual and physical), the seasonal palette board, and setting up new hangers for validated items each season
  • Supporting the development and sourcing of materials as needed for apparel and equipment lines to meet the company calendar deadlines and briefs
  • Testing materials using Arc'teryx custom and industry standard lab testing, including assisting with management of any materials-specific end use field testing
  • Owning the material development PO process; creating POs for development yardage and issuing POs to suppliers to support the concept and prototype making in-house and at T1 facilities
  • Ensuring the Product Line Management system (Centric) stays current and accurate with progress updates for your developments
  • Providing materials expertise and recommendations through consultations with the Quality team, to help monitor, evaluate and resolve materials issues in bulk production

Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:

  • Focusing on a specific materials category to support the Senior Developers
  • Identifying and implementing process efficiencies within the team and cross functionally
  • Developing a thorough understanding of our product categories and supplier base
  • Guiding our Designers to suitable materials in our toolbox

Are you our next Raw Materials Developer 1?

  • You have 1-3 years of apparel industry experience, related to trims and/or materials testing, OR a post-secondary education in Material/Textile Science or a related field
  • You are familiar with materials laboratory testing
  • You have a basic knowledge of materials and textiles, including fibers, yarns, and of knit or woven textile constructions
  • You have a basic understanding of textile manufacturing, including dyeing and finishing
  • You have working experience with a PLM system
  • You are highly motivated and a self-starter
  • You have strong organizational and communication skills
  • You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • You are physically able to handle small boxes and rolls of fabric up to 60lbs
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
  • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
  • You seek the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
  • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it
