Position Overview:

The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation and continuous improvement of General Fusion’s health and safety programs. Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Health & Safety, this role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal safety standards while promoting a strong safety-first culture across the organization.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career safety practitioner (1–2 years of experience) who is eager to grow their expertise in an advanced technical and laboratory environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of health and safety programs to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and internal policies.
  • Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits across laboratory, workshop, and office environments.
  • Identify hazards and partner with departments to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist in incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and track corrective action completion.
  • Track safety metrics, incident trends, and key performance indicators to inform program improvements and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, incidents, certifications, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and related documentation.
  • Support safety onboarding and deliver training sessions and toolbox talks as required.
  • Facilitate safety communication initiatives and promote engagement across teams to strengthen safety culture.
  • Monitor and coordinate PPE inspections, inventory, and related training requirements.
  • Support safety integration for contractors, subcontractors, and temporary workers as needed.
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings and prepare related documentation and reporting.
  • Support emergency preparedness initiatives, drills, and response planning activities.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a health and safety role, ideally in an industrial, laboratory, manufacturing, or technical environment.
  • Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Comfortable communicating with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn.

Nice to Have:

  • Working toward or holding a recognized safety designation (e.g., CSO, NCSO, CRSP in progress).
  • Experience supporting safety programs in a regulated or research-based environment.
  • First Aid Level 2 or 3 certification.
  • Experience participating in incident investigations.

The typical hiring range for this position is $61,000 – $74,000.General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
