Job DescriptionRF Planning & Optimization Engineer (LTE / 5G – Nokia)
Location: Brampton – Hybrid (2-3 days from Office)
1) RF Planning & Design
- Perform end to end RF planning for LTE and 5G networks, covering coverage, capacity, and QoS requirements.
- Create and validate nominal designs, site configurations, PCI/PSC planning, and neighbor lists.
- Develop RF propagation models, conduct site candidate evaluation, and perform model tuning in Planet.
- Execute coverage prediction, clutter analysis, and frequency planning using Planet (Mentum Planet).
- Build and maintain link budgets for LTE and 5G (sub 6 GHz, C band, and optionally mmWave).
2) Optimization & Performance Engineering
- Work closely with optimization teams to fine tune parameters and improve overall network KPIs.
- Analyze drive test data, OSS counters, KPI trends, and propose actionable optimization recommendations.
- Troubleshoot RF issues including coverage gaps, overshoot, interference, handover failures, and throughput degradation.
3) Nokia Vendor Expertise
- Perform RF design and optimization within Nokia AirScale RAN environments.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of Nokia specific parameters, features, and 3GPP aligned functionalities.
- Utilize Nokia OSS tools, feature sets, and performance dashboards for diagnostics and optimization.
4) Technical Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation including RFDS, RTWP analysis, MIMO configurations, antenna specifications, and design rationale.
- Provide regular project updates, feasibility assessments, and optimization reports to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 7 years of experience in RF planning and optimization for LTE and 5G networks.
- Mandatory Nokia vendor experience, including AirScale/Flexi platforms, Nokia parameter framework, and Nokia features.
- Expert level proficiency in Planet (Mentum Planet) for RF design and propagation modeling.
- Strong understanding of:
- LTE & NR PHY/MAC/RRC layers
- Massive MIMO & beamforming
- Carrier aggregation, DSS, VoLTE/VoNR design
- Interference mitigation techniques
- Experience with OSS, TEMS, Actix, Atoll (optional), MapInfo, or similar RF tools.
