Job description

Clinical Neuropsychologist - Pediatric Hematology & Oncology

Join to apply for the Clinical Neuropsychologist - Pediatric Hematology & Oncology role at Hamilton Health Sciences.

Location: McMaster Children's Hospital • Status: Regular Part‑Time.

Salary Range: CA$61.40/hr - CA$78.72/hr (provided by Hamilton Health Sciences; actual pay based on skills and experience).

Unit Summary
The Pediatric Hematology & Oncology ambulatory (out‑patient) clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MUMC site) provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer and/or blood disorders. The care includes acute tertiary and subspecialty oncology medical and surgical care in an outpatient setting, in collaboration with the inpatient team, as well as community partners. The out‑patient care is delivered within a strong family‑based care model and the Hem‑Onc Clinics offer a well‑established multi‑disciplinary team approach. Following treatment, children and adolescents are followed across the lifespan through the After Care Team, whose mandate is to monitor for the late effects of their cancer treatments, within which Neuropsychology plays a key role.

Position Summary
The Neuropsychology service within the Pediatric Oncology team offers an important role in the long‑term outcomes of children diagnosed with cancer in the Hamilton, Halton, Waterloo and Niagara regions. The majority of children treated for cancer incur neuro‑toxic effects on the developing brain and the neuropsychology service assesses and monitors for changes across the lifespan. We work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, child‑life specialists and Allied Health in a multi‑disciplinary setting. The Neuropsychologist receives referrals from the medical team and will provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments to the patients, to measure and monitor neuro‑cognitive development and provide recommendations related to neuropsychological changes and referrals to other services for any psychological concerns. Neuropsychological assessment referrals are received exclusively from the pediatric hematology and oncology program and the position will have a designated psychometrist. Knowledge and experience with neuro‑oncological diagnoses, such as brain tumors and leukemia’s, as well as exposure to associated neurological sequelae including seizures, stroke, and other blood disorders, would be an asset. A candidate who is also trained as a Clinical Psychologist would be an asset to offer psycho‑diagnostic and psychoeducational assessment.

Schedule
Monday to Friday; 22.5 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Neuropsychology from an accredited university
  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university an asset
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a psychologist or psychologist in supervised practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario for the practice of neuropsychology
