Nature & Scope

The Program Coordinator is a key member of the VAWISS Leadership Team and plays a central role in ensuring the effective delivery, coordination, and continuous improvement of PEACE Child & Youth Counseling, STV Outreach, and Housing Outreach programs. The position provides day‑to‑day leadership to staff and volunteers, supporting trauma‑informed, high‑quality service delivery that aligns with YMCA BC policies, government contract requirements, and the needs of individuals and families accessing services.

Working closely with the Manager, the Coordinator supports operational planning, monitors program delivery, evaluates outcomes, and implements improvements that enhance service impact. The role contributes to staff development through coaching, onboarding, participation in performance management processes, and providing guidance related to program standards and expectations. The Coordinator also assists with budgeting, financial administration, data collection and reporting, and ensures compliance with documentation and privacy.

A significant component of this position involves crisis response and front‑line support, including debriefing, managing critical incidents, and working collaboratively with emergency services when required. The Coordinator may be scheduled for direct service shifts—primarily within the Transition House—to ensure continuity of care, provide operational coverage, and support clients and staff during high‑need situations.

The role further contributes to community engagement by developing and maintaining strong relationships with local partners, agencies, and stakeholders. Through collaboration and outreach, the Coordinator helps strengthen service integration, community awareness, and access to VAWISS programs.

Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:

  • Monitor and evaluate program delivery on an ongoing basis, identify service gaps, and implement improvements that enhance participant outcomes and overall program effectiveness.
  • Support the Manager with operational planning and administrative functions, ensuring consistent service delivery, accurate data collection, timely reporting to funders, and adherence to documentation, privacy, and confidentiality standards.
  • Contribute to human resources activities, including staff coaching, day‑to‑day support, recruitment assistance, onboarding, and participation in performance management processes for front‑line staff.
  • Assist with financial and resource planning to support program sustainability, including processing invoices, tracking expenditures, and contributing to fundraising or resource development efforts as needed.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, agencies, and stakeholders to strengthen service coordination, increase program visibility, and support advocacy for individuals accessing VAWISS services.
  • Ability to participate in a 13-week on-call rotation each year; week-long coverage is 24 hrs/day, including weekends and statutory holidays. On

call responsibilities range from providing phone support to attending in-person debriefings, or doing front-line Anti-violence Crisis shifts.

Qualification-you bring:

  • Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Gender Studies, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will also be considered.
  • 3 + years of supervisory or management experience, ideally within the non‑profit sector.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the anti‑violence sector.
  • Training and demonstrated knowledge of trauma‑informed and response‑based practices.
  • Strong understanding of cultural diversity, inclusion, and anti‑oppressive leadership approaches.
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Experience with program assessment, evaluation, and development.
  • Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and the ability to adapt to multiple digital platforms.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
