Tenure-Track Faculty Position, Rural and Remote Health Care and Services

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a tenure track full-time faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in the department of Community Health and Epidemiology, College of Medicine.

The research area is rural and remote health care and services in the province of Saskatchewan. This individual will work with the Associate dean, Rural Medicine, to develop research with rural and remote provincial medical faculty, Métis and First Nations healthcare, communities, and other collaborators : the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research, and provincial stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be expected to secure external research funding to support their research program.

Other responsibilities will include graduate level teaching and supervision of graduate student and post-doctoral research projects.

Some teaching in medicine and the postgraduate Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency Program may also be required.

Participation in the relevant administrative activities, committee work, public and professional service appropriate to rank are also expected.

The Department (

The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is a dynamic, cohesive academic department comprising 18 faculty and 34 associates and adjuncts, located in the Academic Health Sciences Building.

We have active graduate programs at the Masters and Doctoral levels and make a vital contribution to the undergraduate education of medical and health sciences students, and postgraduate education with the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency Program.

Areas of current research excellence include child health, Indigenous peoples’ health, global health, environmental health, social epidemiology, health inequities, biostatistical applications to chronic diseases, public health practice, and knowledge exchange.

An emphasis on health equity, social justice, and community engagement underpins all our work. We have strong relationships with diverse community-based organizations and government agencies and partner with research units such as the Saskatchewan Population Health Research and Evaluation Unit, the Public Health Observatory (SHA), the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health, and the Community-University Institute for Social Research.

With the leadership of the Associate Dean, Rural Medicine and the office of Faculty Development, this position will be required to develop and support an effective and productive network of faculty interested in rural and remote health care research and scholarship across the province for the College of Medicine.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a health-field related and post-doctoral research experience relevant to this posting. They will demonstrate a record of research excellence as reflected in the number and quality of peer-reviewed publications and show potential to attract external research funding.

Candidates must have strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and engagement skills, and demonstrate the capacity to create and sustain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent emerging researcher with demonstrated experience and a strong forward focus on research relevant to health service delivery in rural and remote settings, encompassing the care and quality of life of rural and remote populations.

We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to addressing the challenges of primary health services, and to developing relevant and sustainable innovations in rural and remote Saskatchewan communities.

The current salary bands are :

Assistant Professor; $ 99,945-120,099

Associate Professor : $120,099- $140,253
