Job Details

The City of St. Albert is recruiting two Community Development Coordinators to join the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Branch within our Community Services department.

Reporting to the Manager, FCSS, Community Strategies, the Community Development Coordinator leads initiatives that strengthen community well-being and address emerging social issues. Working with residents, community organizations, schools, government partners, and City departments, this role develops and evaluates programs, builds partnerships, and supports community-led solutions that respond to local needs.

Our Community Development Coordinators work across a range of focus areas, including aging in place; child and youth development; civic involvement and volunteerism; community connectedness and safety; family and gender-based violence; housing and homelessness; inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility; mental health and addictions; and poverty.

The two positions currently being recruited will focus on the following portfolios:

  • Mental Health and Family Violence Prevention
  • Poverty and Homelessness Prevention

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating ongoing environmental scans to identify key community issues in assigned target areas while engaging residents and community partners/stakeholders.
  • Facilitating program outcome evaluation and reporting of key projects and programs, communicating the same to partners both internally and externally.
  • Developing and implementing community development initiatives and preventive social programs that address emerging community needs and trends.
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with residents, community organizations, schools, government agencies, and community partners.
  • Conducting research and preparing reports, recommendations, and correspondence on social issues to support evidence-based community services and programs.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related discipline and 5 years of community development and community engagement experience.
  • Superior evaluation, outcomes and tracking skills that can ensure deliverables are met and reported.
  • Advanced knowledge of community development, program development, and community engagement principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in program development, fund development, research and report writing.
  • A strong understanding of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility.

Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Hours of Work

  • We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
  • There will be requirements for overtime, evening hours, and travel to attend local and regional meetings.
  • Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Compensation

  • The salary ranges from $86,055.32 - $105,914.90 per year, including a comprehensive benefits package with a flexible spending account, pension plan, and accrued paid vacation starting at 3 weeks per year
  • Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.

Why You Should Work With Us

  • Eligible to apply for a Hybrid Remote Work arrangement, with a minimum of 51% of work time spent onsite and the remainder worked remotely. Employees are eligible to participate in this program after 3 months of employment, subject to satisfactory performance.
  • You will receive a Flexible Spending Account limit at the beginning of each calendar year (permanent full time $400).
  • Employees can purchase an annual Recreation Access Pass for $87 + tax, granting unlimited access to Servus Credit Union Place (excluding PLAYcare and registered programs), Fountain Park Recreation Centre, and Grosvenor Outdoor Pool.

  • The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain a clear vulnerable sector police information check.

  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business use are required.
