Job description
Hours of work: Must be able to work rotating Days and Afternoons. How You Will Make an ImpactThe successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to the mission values of hospitality, availability, responsibility, adaptability, quality and dignity with a demonstrated knowledge of issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, substance use/addictions and developmental disabilities.Demonstrate professionalism and excellent communication skillsResponsibilities will include direct client contact in all aspects of service necessary for the comfort and safety of individuals accessing shelter servicesAbility to carry own caseload and work within a client-centered perspectivePossess a working knowledge of issues related to gender-based violence, trauma, homelessness, mental health and substance useWork from a trauma-informed, anti-racist, anti-oppressive and feminist frameworkExperience supporting the development of personalized counseling plans and maintaining a caseload is requiredObserve all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulationsWhat You'll Bring to Our TeamA post-secondary education in a social service/related field or lived experience working with vulnerable individualsGood knowledge of social service agencies and community resourcesHave a strong understanding of harm reduction principlesMust have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, good organization skills and ability to prioritize case workloadResidential caseload experience preferredA valid C.P.R. certificationExcellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skillsComputer literacy including Word, ExcelCommitted to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good ShepherdFluency in a language in addition to English is an assetWhat We OfferBe a part of a caring TEAM THAT SUPPORTS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITYSupport for continuing EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTStaff recognition programs along with access to self-care supports and EMPLOYEE / FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)POSITIVE and ENCOURAGING atmosphereMake a difference and provide HOPEJoin our team and be part of a group that values hard work, dedication, and the importance of maintaining a positive environment for everyone.Good Shepherd, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, is an equal opportunity employer operating within an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework.
