REGISTERED NURSE (RN), OUTPATIENT SUBSTANCE USE WITHDRAWAL & STABILIZATION

Position Summary

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health and working collaboratively and in partnership with the multidisciplinary care team and partners, and reporting to the Program Lead – Specialized Services, the Nurse engages in the provision of wholistic, person-centered and recovery-oriented care and practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The Nurse through assessment and monitoring, provides service to clients in their homes, communities and/or clinics, , , in partnership with the individual/family and care team, and develops a plan of personal care and intervention to assist the individual in managing the medical symptoms of substance use withdrawal and/or stabilization.

Qualfications
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN or RPN with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Two years recent, related clinical nursing experience in Mental Health and Substance Use settings.
• CPR

• Ability to complete initial and ongoing individual assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the individuals, families, the public, medical staff, and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
• Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem solve effectively.
• Ability to promote individual-focused care that demonstrates care for and with individuals and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
• Ability to create culturally safe, trauma informed health care settings through individualized care planning and collaborative approaches to service provisions, including Indigenous Health Services as possible.
• Ability to transmit information intended to instruct individuals and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
• Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creating planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
• Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Valid Driver’s License
