Position Overview

As a Construction Scheduler at Kiewit, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our projects are delivered on time and within budget. You will be responsible for developing, managing, and updating comprehensive construction schedules that drive the project from estimating through to completion. Collaborating closely with project managers, contractors, and subcontractors, you will analyze project timelines, identify potential scheduling risks, and develop mitigation strategies. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and exceptional communication skills to keep all stakeholders aligned and projects progressing smoothly.

District Overview

Kiewit is recognized as one of North America’s premier construction and engineering firms, delivering excellence across a wide range of markets including transportation, oil and gas, power, building, water, industrial, and mining sectors. Established in 1884, Kiewit has built a legacy centered on safety, quality, and innovation. Our Western Canada District, based in Burnaby, British Columbia, focuses on heavy civil projects such as roadways, bridges, tunnels, water infrastructure, and underground utilities. Some of our landmark projects include the George Massey Tunnel, Sea to Sky Highway, and the Port Mann Bridge. We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative environment dedicated to sustainable project outcomes and client satisfaction.

Location

This role is primarily based full-time at our Burnaby District Office, with opportunities to work on diverse projects across various locations in Canada. We encourage candidates who are open to the possibility of obtaining U.S. work authorization for future assignments, supporting career development across borders. The position offers a dynamic work environment that balances office-based scheduling tasks with occasional site visits to ensure project alignment and progress. #LI-RP1

Responsibilities

  • Construction Scheduling: Create and maintain detailed, realistic project schedules utilizing industry-standard software such as Primavera P6, Tilos, and InEight, ensuring all phases from pre-construction through completion are accounted for.
  • Resource Management: Analyze and allocate resources effectively by scheduling activities, major milestones, critical approvals, and procurement timelines to optimize project flow and productivity.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation: Proactively identify scheduling conflicts, bottlenecks, and potential delays; develop comprehensive mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison among project teams, facilitating transparent and timely communication of scheduling updates and adjustments to all involved parties.
  • Progress Tracking and Reporting: Closely monitor construction progress against schedules, investigate variances, and implement corrective actions to maintain adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Ensure meticulous documentation of scheduling activities, progress reports, change orders, and revisions to maintain project transparency and accountability.
  • Quality and Compliance: Uphold project quality standards, ensuring scheduling practices comply with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Cost Management Collaboration: Work collaboratively with project management to align scheduling efforts with financial goals and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising project integrity.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process enhancements by evaluating scheduling methodologies and recommending innovations to improve scheduling accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in project scheduling software, with strong proficiency in Primavera P6; additional experience with Tilos and InEight is highly valuable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience in the construction scheduling field.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience managing complex construction schedules within heavy civil or infrastructure projects.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for identifying scheduling risks and developing practical solutions.
  • Outstanding communication skills, capable of fostering collaboration among diverse project teams, contractors, and clients.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail, adept at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes, materials, health and safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively under pressure, adapt to changing project demands, and deliver results within tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with budgeting principles and cost control techniques to support project financial management.
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development in construction scheduling and project management.
Other Requirements:
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
