Job description

You will be working in Cuenca, Ecuador. The field accountant role is an office position with other ministerial opportunities.

Responsibilities

  1. Preparation of the field budget to be approved by the Field Committee and/or Finance.
  2. Responsibility for all field disbursements and receipts.
  3. Custody of all Mission cash assets, near-cash assets, and securities on the field.
  4. Accountability for all Mission assets, such as real property, vehicles, equipment, and furnishings.
  5. Maintenance of all financial records in accordance with Mission standards.
  6. Regular review of the accounts of all recipients and disbursers of Mission funds, including outlying centers, mission ministries, institutions, and programs of the national church to which OMS contributes designated donations.
  7. Ensure expenditures do not exceed the approved budget and reduce costs when income is insufficient.
  8. Collaborate with the Field Committee to increase funding.
  9. Interpretation of field financial reports from headquarters to the Field Committee quarterly or as requested by the Field Director.
  10. Supervise the work of the field bookkeeper, if applicable.
  11. Perform internal control procedures.
  12. Oversee reporting for mission employees, including understanding employment laws and reviewing submitted reports.
  13. Manage all reporting required by national laws on the field.
  14. Participate in interviewing and engaging professionals such as accountants and attorneys, overseeing their work.
  15. Handle grant reporting for entities and individuals receiving grants from OMS, including requesting and reviewing reports and communicating results to OMS global.
  16. Maintain bank account balances and facilitate fund transfers to minimize fees and exchange losses.

Requirements

  • 2-year degree in accounting, business, finance, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or willingness to learn.
  • Logical reasoning and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and OMS accounting software.
