We are looking for a Occupational Therapist to join our Early Psychosis Intervention Team!

Reporting to the Program Manager, EPI the Occupational Therapist will provide recovery-oriented care to individuals aged 14–35 experiencing a first episode of psychosis, for up to three years. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care as part of the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) program.

The Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) program provides standardized, evidence-based treatment through a coordinated care model - the NAVIGATE Program for Early Psychosis Intervention. This position has a specific focus on the Individual Resiliency Training (IRT) component of NAVIGATE, which is designed to support clients in building functional life skills, strengthening personal resiliency, and fostering sustained recovery and community integration.

Status: Permanent full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Note, this posting is for an active vacancy.

Salary: $74,028.74 - $87,411.79 annually. (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)

Location: This position is based out of 60 West Dr, Brampton. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model, staff are required to have on-site and/or community presence as per program and client needs.

What You Will Do:

  • Establish supportive, recovery-oriented relationships with clients, providing assessment, psychoeducation, and case management support to clients, their families, and support networks.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and with EPI partners to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
  • Practice within the full scope of Occupational Therapy, assessing physical, psychological, perceptual, cognitive, vocational, and functional abilities using formal and informal tools.
  • Support clients in identifying strengths, achieving personal goals, processing their experience of psychosis, reducing self-stigma, and developing social skills and resilience.
  • Develop and maintain individualized holistic crisis plans in collaboration with clients and their support systems.
  • Establish and implement recovery plans that guide goal-setting and client-centered work toward recovery.
  • Assist clients in identifying and pursuing educational, vocational, and life skill development goals.
  • Consult, advocate, and liaise with community partners to support client goal achievement.
  • Monitor mental health status and apply appropriate interventions to promote stability and wellness.
  • Provide support related to Community Treatment Orders and legal matters as required.
  • Participate in case conferences to advocate for and support coordinated care.
  • Complete referrals and collaborate with internal and external teams, including providing follow-up support after program graduation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, client records, and outcome measures in accordance with CMHA Peel Dufferin policies and procedures.
  • Plan and facilitate psychoeducation groups and social/recreational activities.
  • Contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and research and educational activities.
  • Training in DBT and CBT modalities is considered an asset

What You Need to Join Our Team:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Master’s degree in OT, Rehab Sciences or a related field)
  • Registration and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and be a holder of COTO’s pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance
  • At least 3 years of experience providing case management to adults with serious mental illness
  • Sound knowledge of psycho-social rehabilitation, crisis intervention, understanding of addiction/concurrent issues and its impact on this population, recovery principles, groups, severe and persistent mental illness, especially schizophrenia; and primary mood disorders with psychosis
  • Solid experience in a mental health/addiction setting and in completing psychosocial assessments and facilitating groups as appropriate for the first episode psychosis clients
  • Knowledge of community supports and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations and possess effective decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
