About the Team

The Growth Platform Engineering team builds the core systems and tools that drive user acquisition, engagement, and lifecycle growth. Our platform enables personalized communications, intelligent experimentation, and scalable services that help customers discover and adopt Affirms products. We collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, and Experience teams to design APIs, event‑driven services, and experimentation frameworks that reach millions of customers across thousands of merchants.

What You’ll Do

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open‑ended problems and ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate, articulate technical constraints, and make decisions that properly consider risks and trade‑offs.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
• Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting "keep the lights on" and on‑call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
• Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and lead by example.

What We Look For

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and service‑oriented architecture.
• Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design. Write high‑quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base and developing tools and practices that enable safe changes.
• Ownership of growth: proactively seek feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with the global engineering team.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Location – Remote Canada

Affirm is proud to be a remote‑first company! Most of our roles are remote and you can work from anywhere within the country of employment. Some roles may require occasional work out of an assigned office.

Pay Grade

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits such as 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents. The base pay range for this role is $150,000 – $200,000 per year.
