Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Simulation Educator Lead. This position leads the design, development and integration of best practice simulation activities in curriculum across programs in the SoHS to deliver on a holistic approach and vision to meet the experiential learning goals. As an expert resource, the simulation educator develops and facilitates faculty development workshops and activities to ensure psychologically safe learning environments for students and faculty. Collaborates and partners with SoHS leadership, faculty, other simulationists and the greater simulation community locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Simulation Manager, Simulation Leads, Faculty and staff to contribute to the strategic direction and plan for simulation within the SoHS.
- Engages with Simulation Manager and team to develop project budgets within the context of faculty development, expectations and resource constraints. Prepares and writes grant submissions, business cases to secure funding for the simulation program.
- Acts as an expert resource when collaborating with faculty to develop a unified holistic approach in the design, integration and delivery of all simulation modalities into curricula. Focuses on best practices guidelines in simulation, instruction, accreditation, patient safety, quality improvement and provides coaching for novice and developing faculty in simulation.
- Participates in research or evidence-based inquiry and evaluation toward increasing simulation program performance, accreditation and a greater pool of education and knowledge.
- Develops and designs workshops and activities that promotes inclusivity, vibrant learning culture and environment underpinning a psychologically safe environment for simulation program engagement and initiatives for students and faculty.
- Writes and designs assessment and evaluation standards for high stakes testing for optimal student learning.
- Conceptualizes and provides consultation for simulation based instructional design and development and further collaborates to identify, implement, and evaluation of key faculty performance indicators for teaching using simulation (i.e., debriefing – DASH or facilitation assessment).
- Consults and collaborates with media developers, web developers, and Learning Management Systems to assure smooth functioning systems for simulation activities. Works with and engages BCIT support areas – Information Technology services, Teaching and Learning Center and Foundation for simulation program delivery within the SoHS.
- Participates and contributes as an effective team member on committees, special projects, task forces, as necessary.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in education, health profession, or related field. Masters preferred.Demonstrated awareness and commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-racism and a commitment to uphold these practice standardsDemonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and simulation-related theory and practices. Considerable knowledge of educational technologies is an asset.Experience :
Five years recent related experience in simulation, clinical scenario and curriculum development or an equivalent combination of training and experience with recent teaching in a post-secondary environment.Licenses / Memberships / Certifications :
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Simulation Educator designation is preferred.Membership and credentials – International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSIH), Simulation Canada, Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN)Computer Applications & Expertise :
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Demonstrated experience in generating reports, including creative, high quality and interactive learning materials.Superior process design and project management abilities applied in the design and development of health education strategies and initiatives.Communication / Interpersonal Skills :
Strong leadership and visionary skills. Salary Range : $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.
Salary is prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
