ABOUT US :

The New Brighton Residents Association (NBRA) is a not-for-profit organization established to professionally manage and operate several of New Brighton’s community features.

Operated by the NBRA, the New Brighton Clubhouse is a year-round recreational facility consisting of a 6500 square foot building.

Also on site are two tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, basketball courts, a splash park, a playground, and a hockey rink.

The Bell Tower amenity, pond fountains, and community entrances are among a few of the other community features maintained by the NBRA.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY :

The New Brighton Residents Association (NBRA) is seeking an individual to perform the senior management role as General Manager.

The General Manager is responsible for the management of the daily operations, maintenance, administration, membership management, governance, customer experience, facility rentals, programming, and stewarding the strategic vision of the organization.

AUTHORITY :

The General Manager of the NBRA will report directly to the NBRA Board of Directors, President.

HOURS OF WORK :

Monday Friday, a minimum of 37.5 hours a week, on-call responsibility, attendance at evening Board Meetings, as well as NBRA hosted events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES :

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the General Manager is responsible for performing the following functions :

Leadership

  • Provide hands-on leadership and mentoring to all NBRA employees
  • Recruit, supervise, schedule, develop, and terminate NBRA employees
  • Maintain and review the organization’s policies and procedure manuals to establish organization standards
  • Accurately document and communicate performance evaluations for NBRA employees
  • Maintain and adjust employee recognition and compensation programs
  • Ensure employee information and benefits are accurate and properly tracked. This includes vacation time, group benefits, wellness account, RRSP contributions, and issue
  • ROE’s and T4’s as required
  • Provide an open line of communication and feedback for all employees and residents

Financial Accountability

  • Prepare and monitor the annual operating budget, monthly cash forecasts, and long-term cash forecasts
  • Generate new revenue annually by implementing innovative offerings
  • Maintain records of membership status, invoicing, and collections
  • Review and approve invoices for payment, for final approval by Treasurer
  • Prepare and review payroll for approval by the Treasurer, on a bi-weekly basis

Not-for-Profit Governance

  • Organize and prepare all documents and mailing pertaining to the AGM
  • Organize and attend all NBRA Board meetings
  • Organize, prepare, and guide strategic planning sessions with the Board of Directors
  • Prepare and distribute all required meeting documents, administrative reports, and policy manuals
  • Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders and other partners (such as : local businesses, sponsors, the New Brighton Community Association, and other RAs / HOAs)
  • Act as a liaison between the NBRA Board of Directors and residents
  • Ensure compliance with pertinent legislation

Facility Operations

  • Implement a plan to ensure the building, equipment, and landscaping is maintained to a professional standard
  • Schedule operations of and for the building, as well as organize the purchases of equipment / supplies within approved limits
  • Establish and amend rules and regulations of the facility, park, and amenities
  • Work with the appropriate team members to review rates and usage policies for programs and facility rentals
  • Use collected resident feedback to review and adjust programs, events, and value-added activities, and facility rental offerings
  • Ensure communications of policy / rule changes and happenings are shared with Members in a timely manner using a variety of online and offline channels
  • Manage online communication, engagement, and reputation, as well as respond to all concerns and feedback in a timely and efficient manner

Safety Program Management

  • Ensure that the Association is compliant with legislation and maintains the highest level of work safety conditions by monitoring / enforcing employee compliance with the established safety program
  • Maintain COR safety designation
  • Act as an ambassador of the NBRA Safety program
  • Assist the Maintenance Foreman and Safety Officer to update and implement necessary changes to the NBRA Safety Program
  • Monitor and enforce all housekeeping and safety standards

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation Management, Business Administration, or other closely related field of study and / or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a culture of exceptional customer experience
  • Demonstrated ability to increase revenue and membership benefits
  • Strong leadership, management, and coaching skills
  • Extensive knowledge of financial and project management paired with the ability to research, compile reports, and make recommendations
  • Above-average problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills are required with exceptional interpersonal, public relations, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience applying for grants and government assistance programs, considered an asset
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Takes initiative with a propensity to learn and improve
  • Familiar with appropriate legislation - Occupational Health & Safety, Privacy Act, etc.
  • CPR and First Aid Training (or willing to obtain it)
  • Bondable
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License

COMPENSATION

Annual salary range : $75,000 - $85,000

Bonus of up to 10% of annual salary, based on successful completion of defined objectives

Four weeks paid vacation for the first 10 years of service, five thereafter

$500 Annual Lifestyle Wellness Allowance for the first 3 years of service, $800 thereafter
