Overview

Are you dedicated to fostering psychological safety and promoting mental wellbeing in the workplace? Do you have a strong background in human resources (business partner) or health and safety and a desire to create innovative, data-driven wellness programs that support employee resilience and engagement? If so, we want you to join our Employee Health Safety and Wellness team as a People & Culture Specialist, Psychological Health and Safety.

Within our People & Culture team, the Psychological Safety and Wellness Specialist is a trusted advisor and collaborator, shaping strategies that advance a safe, supportive, and inclusive workplace culture where everyone can thrive. This position will offer an avenue for you to showcase your expertise, provide inspiring leadership, and facilitate learning through the development and implementation of innovative psychological safety and wellness initiatives. In the Specialist capacity, you will assume the responsibility of a respected authority in psychological health, safety and wellness matters, not only benefiting our employees but also championing our shared vision and values.

This is a temporary role for 18 months.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices, based on the operational needs of the position. In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do
  • Develop and implement psychological health and safety initiatives, standards, and best practices aligned with organizational values and goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships internally and externally across all organizational levels.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and influencer in psychological safety, embodying the organization's leadership and values.
  • Provide leadership, education, and advisory support to business teams, senior leadership, and People & Culture to integrate psychological health and safety principles throughout the organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate health and safety program effectiveness, including development and delivery of organization-wide psychological health and safety education and orientation.
  • Shape and advance organizational strategies to foster mental wellbeing, ensuring alignment with broader health, safety, and wellness objectives.
  • Apply data-driven insights to develop inclusive, sustainable wellbeing initiatives that support employee resilience and engagement.
  • Collaborate with Employee Health Safety and Wellness team members, P&C Business Partners, Directors, Managers, Communications, Union representatives, and others to provide support, advice, and to influence decisions regarding psychological safety and wellbeing, including its promotion in the workplace.
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

We're looking for someone who can:
  • Brings experience in leading or contributing to complex people and culture initiatives across the employee lifecycle, with a focus on psychological safety and wellness.
  • Communicates with clarity and confidence, both in writing and in presentations, tailoring messaging to different audiences including senior leadership.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, handling sensitive topics related to mental wellbeing and psychological safety with care and professionalism.
  • Has a proactive mindset and deep understanding of organizational policies and practices, continuously seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Stays current with industry trends in psychological health, wellness, and People & Culture practices, and is comfortable participating in cross-functional committees and occasional travel when required.
  • Occasional travel is required, including travel to various worksites as needed.

Your background and experience
  • A university/college degree in a relevant discipline, such as human resources, occupational health and safety, or related field and 3-5 years' experience working in a large or complex organization developing and implementing psychological health, safety and wellness programs.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices related to psychological health.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at all organizational levels and build collaborative partnerships.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational and training programs and initiatives.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform program development and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience working in unionized/non-unionized environments preferred.
  • A current valid driver's license.
  • CPHR, accreditation as an OH&S Professional (i.e., CRSP), CMHA psychological safety certifications would be an asset

Salary: $95,241.00 - $115,717.00/annually
