Deli Clerk & Customer Service - Bower Place

As a Deli Customer Service & Prep Team Member, you will play a key role in delivering a vibrant market experience that reflects quality, flavor, and trust. This hands-on role blends food preparation with customer engagement, ensuring that every interaction is infused with warmth, expertise, and a passion for fresh, handcrafted deli offerings. You’ll be part of a team that brings our deli counter to life through beautifully presented meats, cheeses, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads along with knowledgeable recommendations that inspire and create a memorable experience.
Sunterra Deli offers a curated selection of gourmet products that reflect our commitment to freshness, sustainability, and culinary excellence. As part of this team, you’ll help bring that vision to life by preparing, packaging, and presenting a variety of deli items for both dine-in and takeout. You’ll follow standardized recipes, maintain attractive displays, and ensure that all department and store goals, as communicated by the Market Manager and leadership team, are consistently met or exceeded.
You will ensure a positive company image by providing legendary customer service. Your ability to share product knowledge, suggest complementary items, and create memorable moments will help build lasting customer relationships and a strong sense of community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer Experience
•Provide legendary customer service with genuine enthusiasm and attentiveness.
• Take and fulfill special orders with care and accuracy.
• Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.
• Offer thoughtful suggestions and product recommendations, including pairing ideas.
• Share in-depth product knowledge, including preparation tips, ingredient details, and seasonal features.
• Actively develop and maintain product knowledge, especially around cheeses, cured meats, and accompaniments.
• Assist customers in creating attractive, cost-effective, and high-quality charcuterie boards tailored to their needs.
• Ensure that food products and customer service meet Sunterra quality standards.
Food Preparation & Merchandising
• Prepare food order summaries for the Chef based on customer requests.
• Slice, portion, and package deli meats, cheeses, and prepared foods according to standardized procedures.
• Assemble sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and deli trays with precision and care.
• Build pizzas using fresh ingredients and standardized recipes.
• Weigh products using scales and print accurate labels.
• Properly package and wrap products for retail sale.
• Set and maintain attractive, fresh, and well-stocked displays and shelves.
• Ensure accurate signage and pricing and rotate products to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
• Follow Sunterra Standardized Recipes and all other related Sunterra Policies.
• Follow and monitor sanitary checklists and temperature log sheets.
Inventory & Records Management
• Maintain records of stock, repairs, sales, and wastage.
• Control and monitor inventory levels, product cost, and inform management of variances.
• Understand ordering processes and kitchen budgeting.
• Establish methods to meet completion schedules and production goals.
Team Collaboration & Cleanliness
• Support the Deli Team Lead with daily deli functions and production schedules.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leadership to ensure smooth operations.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Clean and maintain workstations, equipment, and deli cases throughout the shift.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Lead or Market Manager.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in deli, food preparation, or customer service preferred.
• Excellent time management and effective communication skills.
• A genuine interest in food, ingredients, and culinary trends.
• Passion for learning and sharing product knowledge, especially in cheese and charcuterie.
• Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks safely.
• Flexible availability to meet business needs.
• Food Safety Course certification is required (training provided by Sunterra).
• WHMIS certification (training provided by Sunterra).
Working Conditions
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Exposure to cold and wet conditions in refrigerated environments.
• Constant knife work and slicer use and other kitchen equipment.
• Frequent stooping and occasional kneeling.
• Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 40 lbs (team lift required for heavier items).
• Repetitive lifting (up to 40 lbs; team lift required for heavier items).
• Frequent reaching, bending, and occasional use of ladders or stools.
