Role Overview
We are seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Buildings + Places (B+P) team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and delivery of electrical systems for a wide range of building projects, including institutional, healthcare, transportation and light industrial. This position is for a newly created position.
Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you will support project delivery from concept through construction, ensuring high-quality, code-compliant, and sustainable electrical designs.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
Develop electrical designs for building systems, including: power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, backup power systems (generators, UPS), low-voltage systems (communications, security, etc.)
Prepare design documentation including drawings, specifications, load calculations, and reports
Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, and coordination studies
Support BIM/Revit modeling and drawing production
Project Coordination
Coordinate with internal disciplines (mechanical, structural, architectural) and external stakeholders
Participate in design meetings, workshops, and client presentations
Ensure designs align with project scope, schedule, and budget
Codes & Standards Compliance
Apply local and national electrical codes (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code, NEC where applicable)
Ensure designs meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies
Construction Support
Provide support during construction phases, including: shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, site instruction, site visits and field reviews
Assist with commissioning and project closeout activities
Sustainability & Innovation
Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design practices
Support decarbonization and electrification strategies in building systems
Participate in design solutions involving renewable energy and smart building technologies
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline +2 (two) years of experience as an Electrical Engineer
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience
3–7 years of experience in electrical engineering within building consulting or related industries
Experience with a variety of building types (commercial, healthcare, institutional, etc.)
Technical Skills
Proficiency in: Revit and AutoCAD, Electrical analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower), Lighting calculation tools (e.g., AGi32)
Strong understanding of building electrical systems and integration
