Readers can come to Narcity to find out where to go for dinner and discover the biggest stories of the day to talk about over their meal.

Narcity Media’s rapidly expanding Editorial team is made up of energetic multi-platform content creators who know how to engage with Gen Z and Millennial readers, helping them discover the undiscovered by highlighting the most interesting news, places, people and ideas in their cities and beyond.

Your Mission:

Narcity.com is always on the lookout for great talent to add to our organization. This is an open application for prospective Staff Writers & News Reporters from any province, or city we operate in who are interested in joining the team!

As a Staff Writer or News Reporter for Narcity.com you will play a pivotal role in our daily operations and our local, national, and/or global coverage by breaking exclusive stories that are relevant to readers within the region you cover. We’re looking for experienced journalists and storytellers who have a passion for our cities and believe they’re the most interesting places in the world. The right candidates should be excited to cover a little bit of everything, whether it’s national news, spotlighting extraordinary Canadians, under-the-radar destinations and events, major protests, policy changes, real estate, or restaurants. The Writer/Reporter will also be contributing to the site’s traffic objectives and should have a strong network of sources and a knack for finding unique angles. They should have a record of breaking news and be passionate about working alongside like-minded creatives on an enthusiastic team.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Strengthen the Content Division's KPIs and Objectives

• Pitching, writing, and editing news articles
• Publishing an average of 5 stories per day
• Creating compelling packaging using the Narcity voice
• Ensuring all information is properly cited and factually accurate
• Maintaining high-quality work while meeting ambitious goals

2. Move our story arch and narrative structure forward

• Breaking news and getting exclusive interviews
• Working with Editors to make sure we are the best website for Gen Z and Millennial content

Your Qualifications:

• Experience as a news reporter or journalist
• Degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is an asset but not required
• Experience with breaking stories and getting exclusives first
• Deep knowledge of what is happening and trending within your region
• Able to meet tight deadlines
• Enthusiasm for brainstorming as a team
• The ability to spot catchy, unique angles and execute on them quickly
• Strongly familiar with various style guides, especially AP Style
• Available to work a flexible, full-time schedule with occasional weekends and evenings required as needed.

Position Type & Salary Range:

This is an open application for a permanent remote position based anywhere Narcity operates because we are a flexible-first company. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

$45,000-$60,000
