Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab), Cardiac Recovery Room (CRR), and Pacemaker Operating Room (OR) provide a dynamic and highly specialized practice environment for nurses seeking to develop advanced cardiovascular expertise. As a Registered Nurse (RN) in these areas, you will deliver safe, patient- and family-centered care in accordance with Alberta Health Services policies, professional nursing standards, and evidence-based practice.This role encompasses the assessment, preparation, monitoring, treatment, and recovery of patients undergoing a wide range of diagnostic, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures, including emergent STEMI interventions. Within the Cath Lab, you will perform scrub and circulating nursing duties, including the operation of specialized equipment, maintenance of sterile technique, administration of medications and procedural sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, and ongoing patient assessment and documentation throughout procedures. Within the CRR, you will provide comprehensive pre- and post-procedural care, including advanced patient assessment, monitoring, management of complications, and discharge planning. You may also support procedures performed outside the Cath Lab, such as Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) and electrical cardioversions. In the Pacemaker OR, you will support patients undergoing cardiac device procedures, including pacemaker and implantable cardiac device insertions, replacements, and revisions, while contributing to a safe and efficient procedural environment. This position offers exposure to advanced cardiovascular therapies and technologies. Nurses will develop expertise in the setup, operation, and clinical application of specialized equipment, including cardiac defibrillators, temporary pacemakers, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $ to $ per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification:

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of one year of recent critical care nursing experience supported by relevant critical care education and training, as well as one year of current experience as a Registered Nurse in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Applicants must demonstrate strong clinical judgement, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills are essential. This position requires the ability to safely meet the physical demands of direct patient care in a procedural setting, including wearing a lead apron for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs. (23 kg), prolonged standing and walking, assisting with patient transfers and repositioning, caring for bariatric patients, performing repetitive computer-based tasks, and regularly bending, twisting, and stooping. Successful candidates must complete a comprehensive 10–12 week full-time orientation program in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Cardiac Recovery Room (CRR), and Pacemaker Operating Room (OR). Following orientation, staff will be expected to work across all three clinical areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current certification and competency in defibrillation, ECG interpretation, temporary pacemaker management, advanced hemodynamic monitoring (including IABP), ACLS, procedural sedation, and Connect Care experience are considered assets.
