Utility Operator III

Come join our team for an exciting career in local government. District of Saanich Public Works is seeking two Utility Operator IIIs to join our Storm & Wastewater team. The Utility Operator III will supervise and participate in the work of a crew carrying out installation, rehabilitation, repair, inspection and testing of Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water systems. The successful candidates will coordinate and review work and ensure schedules and established performance standards are met. This position involves working in and around creeks / waterways and requires an understanding of environmental protocols and best management practices.

Requirements include : Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP Level I Certification for Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution; Traffic Control Certificate; three years of pipefitting experience in water or wastewater systems including experience in project management and experience and / or training directing the work of others; spill response training (as required); trained in confined space entry; considerable knowledge of field-based GIS software; BCWWA Certification in Cross Connection Control (as required); Certified in CCTV coding as required; and a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with airbrake endorsement (as required) with an annual renewal of Driver’s Abstract. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. – 4 : 30 p.m. (40 hours per week) and must have versatility; manual dexterity; and sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to work in all weather conditions.
