Teacher Teaching On Call

The Skeetchestn Indian Band is a rural First Nation Community located approximately 60 kilometers West of Kamloops, British Columbia.

The Band strives to support the membership and community, while preserving its cultural and traditional values. Skeetchestn Indian Band fosters a collaborative Culture;

open, friendly, team-based, participative, and consensus driven. The Skeetchestn Community School offers Kindergarten through Grade 12.

DESCRIPTION :

Under the direction of the Principal or teacher, the Teacher on Call would serve as teacher in a variety of school and educational situations and will provide one to one support and / or small group reinforcement to students in all academic areas.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Successful experience working with students of Aboriginal ancestry
  • Knowledge and understanding of local Aboriginal culture and traditions
  • Proven written and verbal communications skills, as well as, exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in Team Development
  • Superior abilities in verbal and written communication
  • Have a demonstrated interest in success for all learners and a belief that proper intervention can result in greater opportunities
  • Be a self starter who will show initiative and operate with minimum supervision
  • Have a pleasant, amiable disposition in working with students, professional staff and parents
  • Have the ability and ready willingness to listen to and follow directions for duties to be performed
  • Be able to handle behaviour concerns in a rational, equitable and respectful manner
  • Be able to work constructively as a team player as school programs are being developed
  • Work with individual and groups of students
  • Perform duties in a friendly, supportive, caring manner towards staff, students and visitors to the school

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION :

1. Valid BC Teacher’s Certificate

2. Bachelor of Education Degree

3. TQS Certification, Category 5 or higher

4. Active membership with B.C College of Teachers

ELIGIBILITY :

  • Must undergo a criminal record check
  • Driver’s License- Class 5 with clean drivers abstract
