Job Description

This position is one that requires one to rise very early in the morning and work during the hours that most people are asleep, so the position is ideal for a true morning person.

The expectations for you at Kelly's Bake Shoppe will be that you show up on time, and ready to work. Bring a positive attitude, while working in both in a team environment and independently to complete multiple tasks throughout the day in the back of house.

You will follow our daily production to ensure supply levels are kept at par.

Using different baking techniques to produce a variety of high-quality products that customers can buy fresh in store and have shipped across the Canada and the GTA.

Daily cleaning tasks are required to keep the baking area clean and sanitary.

Learn how to use all baking equipment and tools including industrial mixers, ovens, induction and gas range, knives, etc.. Training will be provided.

  • Early morning shifts as early as 2 : 00am

  • No Gluten / wheat on the premise
  • Complete training program over 2-week period

Detailed Duties

Quality Control

Knowledge of the high-quality ingredients we use and understanding why we use them is vital to your role. Example : why do we use Fair-Trade Palm Shortening vs. standard palm shortening?

  • Following recipes to exact specifications. (Requires the use of scales to weigh each ingredient)
  • Asking questions when necessary to have a clear understanding of what’s expected
  • Keeping a clean and sanitary workspace. This is important to ensure we have no contaminants enter the baking space.
  • Accountability : including signing off on work completed when required
  • Good character : we like people who keep a positive attitude when stress can be high. And we look to those who will put love into every cupcake they touch.
  • Quality Control : As a baker you will be working with the recipes to produce wet and dry mixes
  • If something doesn’t look like it’s %, do not serve or use it.

Customer Service

Providing excellent customer service is a hallmark of Kelly’s Bake Shoppe. By establishing relationships with our customers, we’ve gained customers for life.

We’ve known customers that shop at Kelly’s for over 10 years!)

Answering phone calls is a big part of the baker’s job. While our customer service staff do answer the phone, often they are busy helping customers in store.

Therefore, we need our bakers to know a standard greeting and have a helpful tone when talking to customers.

  • Knowing the FAQs of Kelly’s Bake Shoppe. This can be found on our website and will help answer the majority of all questions you will receive over the phone.
  • Staying up to date on our policies for the many services we provide. For example : cakes options, and delivery radius, etc.

Production Schedule

  • Retrieve information from our online ordering system, and previous sales data to create our daily production list.
  • The Lead Baker / Manager will provide the detailed daily production list. You will be asked to complete these tasks. Common tasks include :

Work during our Morning Bake (Start times include 2 : 00am, 4 : 00am, 5 : 00am)

Rolling cookies

Making doughs / batters

Making frosting

Decorating cakes

Frosting cupcakes

Scooping cupcakes

Using ovens

Putting away orders

Accepting deliveries

Thorough cleaning and organizing

Product Knowledge

  • We will provide proper training to teach about all the products from a baking standpoint. -You’ll be required to stay up to date on new products.
  • Being able to answer questions for customers or a pop-quiz during a meeting.
  • Cleanliness
  • Adhering to cleanliness standards and health and safety guidelines.
  • Completing daily cleaning of the workspace. Including, sweeping, mop, sanitizing counters.
  • Deep Cleaning during scheduled cleaning days. Including, behind tables, inside ovens, inn storage area, in the dish sink area.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year working in the food service industry
  • Completion of a baking program; Niagara College, George Brown, Culinary Institute
  • Able to arrive at the bakery between 2 : 00am 10am for night / day shifts
  • Have a good attitude and willingness to learn and work hard
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
