Health Information Correspondent - Repost
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, the incumbent is responsible for accepting, screening and responding to written, telephone or personal requests for health information from HSC health records in accordance with HSC approved policies and guidelines and / or statutory legislation.
Accepts subpoenas for HSC health records, prepares health records for court and attends court to testify in the capacity of custodian of the health record.
Accepts and responds to court orders and search warrants for health records, providing appropriate information on the health record.
Receives, processes and co-ordinates with physicians, other health care disciplines and patients wishing to access their health records.
Processes a defined number of requests in order to meet a minimum daily set quota.
Experience
Two years’ experience handling and releasing confidential patient information from hospital health records, including attendance at court as the custodian of the health record, required.
Education (Degree / Diploma / Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Successful completion of an accredited Health Record Technician, Health Information Technologist, Health Information Management (HIM) or Health Records Administrator program required.
Certification / Licensure / Registration
Active member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and / or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- Typing 50 wpm and demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft (Word, Excel, and Access) required.
- Excellent oral, written and organizational skills required.
- Must possess a sound understanding of the principles of confidentiality and release of medical information with the ability to interpret same to Administration, medical staff, other hospital disciplines, patients, lawyers, police, social agencies, insurance agencies and the public in accordance with current hospital policy and legislation.
Physical Requirements
Frequent interruptions, occasional travel.
