Education Assistant – French Speaking (Preferred) – Elementary (Temporary)
Join Sooke School District 62 as an Education Assistant in École John Stubb’s Memorial School. This temporary position is 30 hours per week and supports students in a variety of classrooms, including students with autism, needs for behaviour support and learning assistance.
Terms of Employment
All instructional days, September through June.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the planning and implementation of Individual Education Plan goals, objectives and supports.
- Supervise students within the school, on the playground and on field trips, including transitions between activities in and outside the school building.
- Assist students during classroom activities.
- Support social inclusion in the classroom and on the playground through implementation of self‑regulation, behaviour‑support and communication strategies and monitoring of behaviour.
- Objectively observe and record student behaviour as required.
- Report safety, unusual behaviour, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate, while resolving minor disagreements where possible.
- Support personal‑care needs of students (e.g., glucagon testing, toileting, feeding).
- Attend to minor cuts or bruises, referring students to first aid attendant as required.
- Physically assist students using lifts and transfers, and support transferring students on and off buses.
- Walk or run indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Remain current in school, district and provincial policies and guidelines relevant to the role (e.g., Provincial Physical Restraint and Seclusion Guidelines).
- Perform other related duties as time permits and / or as assigned.
Qualifications
Secondary school graduation or equivalent.Education Assistant certification or equivalent in a related field or equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities, behaviour disorders, learning and physical disabilities.Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children.Knowledge and understanding of child development.Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans is an asset.Ability to implement modified and adapted curriculum.Basic computer skills – reading and composing emails, viewing Word / Excel documents, navigating the internet and using web‑based applications.Physical ability to respond to student needs (e.g., bolting).Skills and Abilities

Rate of pay is as per the CUPE Collective Agreement. Duties will commence as soon as possible and will conclude upon the return of the incumbent or unless otherwise notified by the Human Resources Department.
