About the Role
The Building Automation System (BAS) Manager leads the development and implementation of the BAS strategic plan to meet the University's energy management and greenhouse gas reduction initiatives. The role is responsible for ensuring the effective operation and optimization of BAS platforms across the University. The BAS Manager addresses comfort issues and drives efficiency by identifying, implementing and documenting operational measures such as optimizing the schedules, setpoints, and sequence of operations in SFU's existing building automation systems. The role provides support to internal staff and guidance to consultants, contractors, and stakeholders, while working closely with the Energy Manager and the Associate Director of Energy, Controls & Maintenance Planning for the operation of the University's building automation system (BAS) to optimize energy usage while maintaining satisfactory environmental conditions. The BAS Manager also serves as a key member of the Energy Committee, championing consistent energy efficiency and conservation practices and aligning BAS operations with University-wide goals.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong, client-oriented, and collaborative Building Automation Manager who can bridge controls technology, operations, and strategic energy goals. They bring deep hands‑on experience with building automation systems while also thinking at a portfolio and campus level.
Qualifications
Diploma in Electric or Mechanical Engineering or other related field, and ten years of relevant experience with controls and building automation systems, including direct experience with BAS design, implementation, and programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
