Role Overview

The Site Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment on all DCM construction sites. This position requires strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, a proactive approach to identifying hazards, and effective communication across teams.

As the vital link between employees, supervisors, management, and contractors, the Site Safety Coordinator ensures that safety information, training, and initiatives flow seamlessly between the field and management. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Coordinator leads the implementation of DCMs Health and Safety Program and takes immediate action to correct unsafe conditions while fostering a culture of safety excellence.

  • Ensure all hazard assessments are completed and filed on the companys safety management platform.
  • Review and monitor fall protection plans for any work at heights exceeding 25 feet.
  • Supervise the on-site implementation of WHMIS and confirm all workers are adequately trained.
  • Represent DCM during WorkSafeBC and other regulatory inspections.

Orientation, Training, and Safety Oversight

  • Collect and maintain proof of safety certifications (e.g., fall protection, machine operation, first aid).
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager with safety compliance, audits, and documentation.
  • Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions to promote ongoing awareness.
  • Collaborate in accident and incident investigations, documenting findings and ensuring follow-up corrective actions.
  • Continuously review the performance of the safety program, recommending improvements where needed.
  • Safety Meetings and Documentation

  • Conduct weekly toolbox talks for Durwest staff to address safety concerns and provide ongoing education.
  • Coordinate and collect daily hazard assessments and weekly toolbox meeting minutes from trade partners.
  • Chair and document monthly site Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings, ensuring transparency of outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including inspections, reports, incident logs, and WorkSafeBC documentation.
  • Track and verify the completion of corrective actions from inspections, investigations, and committee recommendations.
  • Compliance and Disciplinary Procedures

  • Monitor site-wide adherence to DCM safety policies, regulations, and WorkSafeBC standards.
  • Enforce compliance through disciplinary procedures when necessary, in coordination with the Superintendent.
  • Serve as a positive safety role model, leading by example and promoting a culture of accountability.
  • Safety Office Maintenance and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible First Aid and Safety Office and associated storage areas.
  • Post and maintain all Safety Bulletins, inspection reports, and rules in designated on-site areas.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of company safety policies and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with safety regulations, literature, and best practices to enhance on-site programs.
  • Review accident and incident reports to ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, applying sound judgment, discretion, and creative problem-solving.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships and maintains professionalism and composure under pressure.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn and adapt to DCMs safety management platform.
