Role Description :
We are seeking an associate lawyer to join our growing practice. The individual should be very passionate about criminal law and immigration law, should have excellent communication skills and should be highly organized. Prior experience as a lawyer or in a criminal defence / immigration law firm is not compulsory but will be an asset.
Qualifications :
- Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills
- Experience in drafting and reviewing legal documents, contracts, and agreements
- Proficiency with litigation processes, court procedures, and representation skills
- Effective communication, client relationship management, and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a hybrid work environment
- Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple cases efficiently
- Knowledge of relevant legal regulations and willingness to remain updated on legal industry developments
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
Responsibilities :
Daily court appearances for set dates – virtual or in personTravelling to different CourthousesTravelling to correctional centres to meet in-custody clientsRunning files independently without supervisionLegal researchDrafting factums, application and memosCorresponding with Crown Attorneys and court staffConducting pretrials and trialsCorresponding and meeting with clientsAny other related tasks that the principal lawyer may assignWhat are we looking for in an ideal candidate :
Must be licensed to practice law as a lawyer in OntarioPassion for criminal law, immigration law, litigation, and going to courtExcellent communication and negotiation skillsHighly organized and efficientCommand of English language is a necessityLegal research skills will be highly valuedFluency in Punjabi or Hindi language will be an assetMust have a vehicle as travel is part of the job$60,000 – $80,000 depending on candidate’s experience and skillsSalary will increase over time as your experience and skills growExperience :
1 – 2 years’ experience preferredPrior experience is an asset but not mandatoryThree weeks of paid time offLSO Annual fees will be coveredCPD programs will be covered
