The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is a key member of the Human Resources Team who will utilize their in-depth knowledge of human resources and labour relations practices / programs to provide timely and effective support and solutions to their assigned Functional Area(s).
The HRBP will consult with Leaders and Employees on a wide variety of areas including, workforce planning, recruitment, retention, succession planning, performance management, leaves management, on-boarding / off-boarding and will assist in the development and delivery of organizational effectiveness and compensation initiatives.
This role may also participate in the delivery of Corporate HR programs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide timely and effective Human Resources services to employees while building strong relationships and rapport.
- Offer interpretation and guidance to all parties involved to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines, the Collective Bargaining Agreement(s) (CBA) and applicable legislation.
- Provide advice and guidance to leaders on the interpretation and application of the CBA's
- In preparation of future negotiations of Collective Agreements, document proposed language changes, research and recommend monetary and non-monetary requirements, and monitor applicable market and National Pattern Bargaining updates.
- Mediate grievances and resolve conflicts and communication issues - handle in accordance with CBAs. Track all grievances and outcomes.
- Arbitration - participate as required, in partnership with Legal counsel.
- Coordinate and attend regular Union / Management Meetings.
- Participate in relevant industry meetings, ad hoc surveys, etc.
- Investigate and analyze complex and ambiguous HR issues within client group and develop recommendations for resolution, progressive discipline and / or corrective counselling.
- Lead organizational effectiveness initiatives including developing specific HR strategies, programs, plans, and policies to support business goals.
- Participate in supporting the organization's Talent Development strategy including Succession Planning, Career Rotation programs and building Development Plans, tools and resources.
- Supports leaders and employees in accessing HR policies, programs and services.
- Identify HR trends and developments that may be of interest to the company or specific client groups and create plans to address any arising issues.
- Coaches and counsel managers and supervisors on performance management.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Commerce is preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years related experience with some Labour Relations experience preferred.
- CPHR designation would be considered an asset.
- Excellent MS Office computer skills essential.
- Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, including unionized employees.
- Ability to express ideas clearly, both verbally and in written form.
- Self-motivated, energetic team player, able to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrating attention to detail in the performance of duties.
- Knowledge of all relevant trends, legislative changes and court interpretations affecting Human Resource and Labour Relations issues.
- Ethics must be of the highest order - supporting the principles of human rights, adherence to statutes and maintenance of confidential information.
- Demonstrate a high degree of discretion and judgement in confidential matters.
- Has in-depth business knowledge.
Working Conditions
- The majority of work is performed in an office environment.
- Travel to site locations in Canada and the US is required; approximately 25%.
