Victor is currently recruiting for an Actuarial Analyst for our Ottawa office’s Actuarial Department reporting to Canada’s Chief Actuary

Learn about the data needs for Property & Casualty insurance and how it applies to actuarial science. Gain knowledge of specialized P&C products such as professional liability insurance for thousands of professionals and organizations in Canada.
Use different techniques to obtain the necessary data in a very efficient manner to spend more time analyzing data and spending less time on data gathering.
Communicate with actuarial colleagues, department managers, underwriters and claims analysts to obtain data requirements, establish parameters and scope of project to perform the required analysis.
Get exposure to a broad and diverse range of work across various areas of the business, providing a wealth of opportunities for a self-motivated individual to learn and grow.
Be a part of a small team of experienced and knowledgeable individuals, who will act as your mentors and coaches as you learn new systems and responsibilities.

We will count on you to :
Provide information and analysis for type of policies, business volume, claims incurred, loss ratio and general status of inforce programs.
Interact and effectively communicate directly with department managers, underwriters and claims analysts to provide analysis and assistance for business decisions and strategies.
Perform profitability reviews / rate indications at the program level and / or for new and renewal large accounts.
Streamline process to update reoccurring tasks.
Designs visualizations and interactive user interfaces using SQL and / or Power BI to share information and automate reports.
Take a prominent role in the auditing process (internal and external audits).
Perform other related duties as required.
What you need to have :
1+ year of work experience in a business setting
University degree in actuarial science, statistics, computer science, or business
Knowledge of database structures and query techniques. Ability to manage, manipulate and analyze large data sets to develop business-relevant observations and conclusions to support decision-making.
Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced Excel, proficiency in Access, Word and PowerPoint
Effective problem solver and strong analytical skills in order to analyze problems and develop / implement effective solutions.
Team-player, self-motivated, enjoy working in a self-directed manner and demonstrates the ability to learn / apply new concepts with minimal effort
What makes you stand out?
Knowledge of SQL or Power BI
Completion of Casualty Actuarial Society / Society of Actuaries exams
Strong organizational, adaptability, and interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task
Previous experience in the insurance industry / actuarial science is preferred
Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset
