Overview
Software Quality Assurance (Virtual Test HIL / SIL) Engineering at General Motors. The role involves software development and testing within Agile Scrum teams, focusing on embedded automotive control systems and Virtual tools environments.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- As a Software Quality Assurance Developer, develop complex test strategies and tools across multiple levels of the Test Pyramid, collaborating with Software Architects / Developers and Test Architects to implement comprehensive testing designs using Virtual tools and simulated environments.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Developers and other test teams, using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) to test GM’s next generation of EV and ICE vehicles.
- Design, implement and execute complex testing scenarios in a Virtual Tools environment, and configure tests to run in nightly build environments.
- Understand upstream tests (Software Unit Test) and downstream tests (vehicle-level validation) and create Virtual test plans that integrate and add value across layers.
- Participate in the Agile Team and Agile ceremonies as required.
- Interface with GM internal teams – Calibrators, Vehicle Integration Teams, etc.
- Utilize debugging tools to rapidly identify test execution issues, root causes, and resolve defects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.Experience with debugging C code and / or Rational Rhapsody.Minimum 3 years of embedded software QA experience, including experience on SIL / HIL or other virtual environments.Prior working experience with automotive software standards, test procedures and build processes.Thorough knowledge of communication protocols : CAN / LIN / Ethernet.Demonstrated experience in Continuous Integration environments (nightly builds, etc.).Independently motivated; Scrum Team members are expected to pursue goals with a high degree of independence.Strong communication and the ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights; cross-functional coordination with other scrums will be required (e.g., calibration, integration, system validation) in a geographically dispersed team.Ability to manage time and meet deliverable timing.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with software configuration management processes and tools (e.g., Git ecosystem).Experience in deciphering Ethernet, CAN and LIN Logs.Experience in utilizing debugging tools like Lauterbach.Familiarity with ASIL requirements, ISO 26262, or functional safety testing.Experience working in Agile / Scrum / SAFe is an asset, but not required.Experience in domains such as vehicle access, occupant position, protection, vision & visibility, and comfort / HVAC is an asset but not required.Compensation
The salary range for this role is $90,600 to $136,400. The actual base salary offered will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
