THE ROLE
The Foremanwill work under the direction of the Superintendent to assist with thesuccessful execution of the project through understanding of scope and beingactively engaged in the management of own forces and subtrade work and be oneof the key individuals responsible for Safety on site and implementing the CANASafety Program.
A construction foreman has a solid background in the field.Your leadership skills and your extensive experience have earned you theability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions.
You must bewell-organized and favor safety above everything else.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Toensure that all subcontract forces as well as our own forces work as safely, quickly,and efficiently as possible on site.
This includes scheduling and coordinating subcontract field forces andmaking sure that all queries asked are responded to.
- Investigateways of reducing the cost of the project and ensuring that opportunities to doso are acted upon where it is appropriate, including reviewing drawings forconstruability.
- Workwith Superintendent and other site staff in executing work in accordance withproject schedule. Supply information toupdate and monitor schedule to ensure that milestones are met.
- Reviewand understand the scope of work and responsibilities of own forces andsubtrade scopes of work.
- Attendsubcontractor site meetings and be engaged in active communication on site.Ensure that the site is kept clean, and all work is done in a safe manner.
Material and equipment are to be well managed and tracked.
- Ensuretrades are performing own clean up.
- Reviewthe Specifications and design documents, including shop drawings to ensure thatwork is carried out in accordance with them.
Ensure that all changes to thecontract are incorporated into the work on site.
- Completedetailed Daily reports file as required on the project, including manpower,temperature, weather, incidents implementation of corrective action, hazardassessments, hot work permits, daily tasks completed, concrete volumes and mixdesigns, including copies of the pour slips, other material deliver andshipping information.
- Coordinatethe delivery of materials and equipment on site, including assisting withbooking of cranes, hoists and loading areas as required.
Oversee the trackingof rental returns and manage inventory logs.
- Ensurethat relations with subcontract field forces are kept cordial in that so far aspossible consistent with the understanding that CANA will be pushing thesubcontractors to complete their work as quickly as possible in a "Firm butFair" manner.
- Calculatematerial and services as required and forward requirements to superintendentfor approval.
- Conferswith Superintendent to ensure proper assignment and scheduling of manpower.
- Collectand submit bi-weekly progress quantities as required, for inclusion in costreporting information.
- CompleteSafety documentation, Daily Hazard assessments and FLHAs, be engaged with siteinspections and site investigations, hold trades and workforce to a highstandard of safety, hold yourself to the highest standard.
Enforce CANA Safetypolicy on site.
- Managesite labour forces, both own forces and temp workers, oversee and support thecement finishers.
- Playclose attention to scaffold, fall arrest and any overhead conditions on site.
- Manageand oversee winter heat and hoarding ensure that gas lines are checked and insafe condition.
- Beprepared for the crews’ daily duties in advance, ready for the shift start.
- Effectivelymanaging crew time and tasks (including start, finish, and break times).
- Effectivelytrack, enter, and submit daily manpower time entries.
- Ensuresite is safe and secure at the end of every shift.
- Participatein pour planning.
YOU WILL NEED
- JourneymanCarpenter preferred; other project / construction management experienceconsidered. Additional training as required by the CANA staff training matrix.
- 2-5 years ofcommercial construction and project management experience with a proven trackrecord of projects being delivered on time and on budget.
- Possessstrong communication, leadership, integration, problem-solving, interfacing,scheduling, project management and interpersonal skills.
- Proficientin various software programs, to implement the day-to-day site operations(drawings, deficiency lists, RFI’s, etc.).
- Effectiveness in the areas ofconstruction safety and productivity, contractor management, constructionplanning and execution, project organization and construction project controls.
- Labour relations expertise in bothunion and non-union environments an asset.
- Professional conductwith both internal and external customers
- Demonstrate acommitment to all facets of the role while working towards the achievement of companygoals and objectives.
- Awareness ofpolicies and procedures and fellow team members within the organization
- Ability to work hands on while supervisingcrews of 5-50 personnel.
- Valid Driver’s License or means oftransportation to project sites.
- A high school diploma or GED orCertificate preferred or a Certificate in a Skilled Trade.
- Have a good understanding and / orability to find information as needed in the OH&S regulations.
