Job Overview
The Group Sales Specialist reviews escalated sales, renewals / retention, administrative and claim inquires for further internal review in parallel to group operations.
This role interacts with field staff, Underwriters and external customers to provide information in response to administrative, commission, and other general inquiries.
Plan and execute Annual Business Plan to achieve business goals / targets for client retention and to achieve necessary persistency and profitability targets.
Job Responsbilities
- Develop and implement Annual Business Plan in conjunction with Sales Service & Key Account Manager and approved by VP Group Sales & Distribution
- Reviews administrative decisions escalated through our plan administration partner and determine the appropriate handling method
- Assists in developing and maintaining internal process manuals and decision documentation as well as administrative documents for plan administrators and business partners
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure process or decision changes affecting other teams are communicated along with providing any necessary resulting process change recommendations
- Manage portfolio including new business, renewal and key accounts based on Business Plan and company Objectives
- Contact, build and maintain Plan Advisor relationships as necessary, ensuring Advisor selection meets company standards
- Provide feedback on market activity in assigned region as well as manage activities within expense budget allocated
- Renewal Activity : Review, deliver, forward, follow-up and where necessary to negotiate on renewals issued to Plan Advisors Assist Plan Advisor in presentation of renewal to client where necessary and possible
- Work with Executive Office team where necessary to aid in the development of new product opportunities based on market trends and Plan Advisor feedback
- Maintain working knowledge of product offerings, contracts, and administrative policies and practices
- Provides support by assisting with preparing and sending contract and booklet documents
- Maintains a good understanding and knowledge of administrative and claims adjudication processes
- Assists in the day-to-day administration of groups identified for special handling
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field
- Working towards or have GBA or CEBS is considered an asset
- Five to seven years of proven sales and service experience with emphasis on initiating contact, presenting and relationship building
- Knowledge of Group Insurance, group pricing and small business benefits market would be an asset
- Minimum three years’ work experience in the group insurance industry
- Strong understanding of group quoting and renewal pricing
- Drivers License is required, and, must have own vehicle available on a daily basis (wouldn’t be daily but more as needed)
- Must possess Life / Accident & Sickness License and E&O Insurance (or be able to obtain within 6 months)
- Travel as necessary within the region and / or in multiple Provinces as outlined in the Business Plan. Includes travel to Executive office in Winnipeg when required.

- Strong team player with the ability to work cooperatively and constructively with internal teams to achieve the Operations service levels and benchmarks / targets
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate for intended audience, including internal and external customers through written and verbal communication
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify relevant information and potential impacts
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Strong Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Word and Excel
