A great opportunity awaits you at the University of Guelph to expand your Human Resources generalist experience and skills by supporting a diverse portfolio of clients comprised of research, academic and operational units and multiple employee groups (unionized / non-union).
Working among a collaborative team of and reporting to the Director, Human Resources (Staff Relations), you will provide consultancy services to management and staff in all areas of human resources, including labour relations, recruitment and outreach, learning and development, human rights accommodations, workplace investigations, and performance management.
As an HR Consultant in Staff Relations, you will identify, and facilitate the resolution of, specific HR issues to provide a value-added service, while developing and maintaining professional working relationships with both internal and external clients, including various employee groups and bargaining units, to ensure the provision of a quality, cost-effective service.
The Department and the University will also count on you to identify and recommend changes to current systems and procedures to ensure high standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
To fulfill the role of Human Resources Consultant (Staff Relations), you must be a results-oriented facilitator and champion of best practices, whose profile includes :
- A post-secondary degree in a related field and five -plus years of progressive generalist experience in Human Resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated experience working in a multi-union environment, preferably in the public or broader public sector; Extensive knowledge of employment legislation and current employment best practices;
- Experience working on, or conducting, complex workplace investigations; Experience working in a consultative model of providing human resource services and the ability to produce quality results;
- Strong oral and written communication and facilitation skills; Excellent customer relationship skills, along with a demonstrated ability to influence;
Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities; A track record as a team player and a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
ASSETS :
Change management skills or training; Completion of, or working towards, a CHRP or CHRL designation.
