It has substantial expertise and outstanding track record in bioinformatics and data science, undertaking both portfolio applied informatics research and the development of ground-breaking capabilities.

What you’ll do

The Early Data Science group is growing to meet the strategic challenges pursued by AZ Oncology. We are looking for a hardworking and motivated Senior Scientist to join our Late IO Bioinformatics team.

The role will focus on our expanding portfolio of immuno-therapy containing regimes in clinical stage. You will

  • Analyze late-stage clinical trials in immunotherapies to provide biological insights into patient response, using clinical data and rich patient genomic data, and guide clinical development strategies for future trials
  • Apply the latest computational / systems biology approaches to the wealth of AZ Oncology clinical trial and real-world data;

proactively devise and implement innovative bioinformatic solutions with a focus on immuno-oncology

  • Use your knowledge of cancer biology, drug development and data science to deliver actionable impacts for cross-portfolio tumor strategy
  • Collaborate closely with our Translational Medicine Leads to drive effective data generation from clinical trials and help address technology / analytics gaps
  • Contribute bioinformatics expertise to the application and development of cutting-edge technologies in key strategic growth areas
  • Publish work in high impact journals with industry and academic partners to increase visibility of AZ data science

Essential for the role

  • Relevant PhD (or equivalent graduate degree plus proven applied experience), combining technical expertise in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science or applied biostatistics
  • A solid understanding of the molecular and / or immunological mechanisms driving cancer
  • Skilled in effective communication of complex data, analysis and results to non-computational scientists and partner lines
  • The ability to successfully work in a matrix setting and manage multiple simultaneous priorities on tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics algorithms and toolkits; Programming proficiency in a Linux environment of high performance computing
  • Experience and knowledge with data from clinical trials is strongly desired; expertise in ctDNA / liquid biopsy, single-cell technologies or spatial omics would also be a plus
