The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the talented team in Field Operations West, within the Regulatory Compliance Branch.

This student role will involve field verification of environmental requirements, specifically related to public lands, wildlife, and the Water Act. To uphold the AER’s mandate of environmental protection, this student position will be part of a focused inspection initiative designed to supplement the work of existing inspectors and provide compliance data to the Field Operations West team.

What your day-to-day will look like :

• Assess compliance with the Public Lands Act, Water Act, EPEA, and other relevant legislation under AER jurisdiction.
• Verify construction practices and the maintenance of roads, leases, water diversion activities, watercourse crossings, and associated infrastructure.
• Accurately document findings and complete data entry.
• Make informed decisions on environmental performance that may not be clearly evident and require deductive reasoning.
• Coordinate with Field Inspectors and Senior Inspectors to ensure consistency in field interpretations.
• Analyze provincial data related to specific environmental requirements.
