Hydrogeologist or Engineer – Entry/Mid-Level – Remediation and Reclamation Focus (Hybrid)

Description

Summary :

Barr is seeking an early career hydrogeologist or engineer to assist with challenging projects related to investigation and remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine tailings management, planning and development, and long-term closure strategies.

  • Assigned work tasks may involve working as an individual or as part of a project team to collect air, soil, surface water, sediment, and groundwater samples for field screening and laboratory analysis;
  • assist with environmental site assessments; develop and review environmental compliance documents; analyze environmental data;

and perform construction oversight activities. Project responsibilities may also include siting industrial groundwater production wells and deep injection wells, including evaluating potential aquifer performance and injection capabilities, assisting with conceptual site model development, aquifer test performance and analysis, and work plan and report preparation.

The primary clientele the selected candidate will work with are in the mining sector, with opportunities in the oil and gas, power, and public sectors.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or related discipline

3 or more years of work experience directly related to hydrogeologic evaluations and / or remediation of contaminated groundwater

Minimum GPA of 3.0 / 4.0

Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail

A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs

Legal authorization to work in the Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications :

5 or more years of relevant work experience directly related to the responsibilities above

Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology

Expertise in developing, monitoring, and managing mine tailings areas; development of complex and dynamic conceptual site models;

and contaminant fate and transport

Experience in completing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including aquifer test implementation and analysis with computer software programs (e.g., AQTESOLV)

Familiarity with groundwater modeling software (e.g., USGS MODFLOW 6) and data inputs required for numerical modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport

Currently registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Alberta or Saskatchewan

Current holder of a Saskatchewan Mine Safety Awareness Training or other provincial equivalents (e.g., Alberta’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and WHMIS certificate

  • Familiarity with local environmental regulations, including knowledge of provincial environmental regulations, including Alberta’s Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Alberta’s Mines and Minerals Act;
  • Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Environment Mineral Industry Protection Regulations (1996) and Disposal and Injection Well Requirements;

and Saskatchewan’s Water Security Agency Industrial Water Use regulations and requirements

A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office;

a remote arrangement refers working primarily from a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, office.

NOTE : Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.

Job assignments may involve work on mine sites, waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials.

Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
