Position Summary
Reporting into the Controller, the Cost Analyst will work closely with operations, supply chain, and finance to analyze production variances, support standard cost updates, and ensure alignment with operational goals. Also, part of the responsibility will involve working closely with the repair and maintenance and engineering team, ensuring accounting, accruals and project capitalization is reviewed and correctly updated. This individual must be an independent thinker who can proactively identify opportunities and support the plants management team with timely reports, data and their ideas for improvement. This position works closely with other Costing Analysts to ensure that processes are consistent throughout each location and has a dotted line reporting to the Plant General Manager.
Key Accountabilities
- Partner with plant operations to monitor and improve key metrics such as yield, labor efficiency, machine utilization, and scrap / waste. Attend DDS (daily direction setting meetings) – Support Yield and labor meeting with reports updated with latest data to support corrective action by the operational team.
- Analyze daily and weekly production performance vs. standard costs, highlighting key drivers of variances and recommending corrective actions, maintaining action logs for actions initiated.
- Update standard cost models (MCM) for raw materials, labor, and overhead based on BOMs, routings, and actual performance. Maintain and update the same in AS400 / ERP system.
- Perform corporate driven inventory counts – six monthly and annual, support all plant-initiated cycle counts and reconcile production‑related GL accounts.
- Support month‑end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and PPV and usage analysis. Prepare monthly fixed and variable spend report with analysis and commentary, CI package update in alignment with HR, quality and safety.
- Support in product costing for new items and changes in formulations or processes.
- Collaborate with procurement and production on material cost trends and usage variances.
- Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting activities related to manufacturing costs.
- Provide cost insight and scenario analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CMA / CPA is a plus.3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in food manufacturing or meat processing.Strong knowledge of accounting, general ledger management, and standard costing.Proficient in ERP systems; advanced Excel skills required.Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a process‑improvement mindset.Excellent communication and collaboration skills – able to work with cross‑functional teams on the shop floor and in the office.Self‑starter who is proactive, resourceful, and comfortable operating with minimal supervision.Salary and Benefits
Hiring Range : CAD $56,523- $75,458.
Bonus : This position is eligible for a bonus up to 7.0% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions.
Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
