Brainhunter is currently seeking "Project Manager" to work for our valued Client. This is a one year contract opportunity with possibility of extension.

Project Manager : Roles & Responsibilities :

The Project Manager is responsible for the management of the cost, schedule, scope and technical performance of a portfolio of Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) Closure Project, as defined in the project performance baseline and is accountable to the Senior Project Manager, WL D&D.

The Project Manager ensures that WL Closure project work is performed safely and in compliance with requirements of the Site License, QA Program and Facility Authority.

The Project Manager will proactively manage the personnel performing the scope of work, and implement project management including responsibility to plan, control and monitor the execution of all project work.

They will provide detailed reporting and communication on project status, with emphasis on resolving issues and correcting variances to plans.

The Project Manager will hold budget responsibility for work ranging from $2M to $20M annually and approximately 4 to 10 direct reporting staff.

They will ensure appropriate execution of the WL Closure contract and oversee management of contracts to deliver Projects.

Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.

Abilities and Skills

Must have demonstrated strong leadership skills, to support and articulate the

organizations' vision / mission at all levels, and have a proven ability to achieve results through others.

  • Ability to coordinate time with multiple issues and Projects.
  • Good understanding of change management concepts.
  • The Project Manager has broad knowledge of and commitment to Client's corporate objectives, policies and procedures, and a strong sense of the prevailing industry and regulatory culture.
  • Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain flow of work and accuracy of records;
  • Must be punctual, dependable and safety minded;
  • Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management is required;
  • Ability to understand detailed information is essential;
  • Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one's work;
  • Conscientious about accuracy;
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders; and

  • Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs

Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :

Safety

The Project Manager enforces management expectations regarding safe work

practices, consequences of not following safe work practices and performance

management issues.

Ensure that WL Closure Project work is performed safely and in compliance with

requirements of the Site License and Facility Authority.

Maintains confidentiality in all matters.

Continuing Education :

  • Participates and maintains up to date, all safety and operational training offered through
  • the company;
  • Assumes personal responsibility and is accountable for maintaining current skills by

attending all training required by the site, viewing assigned videos, reading articles and

participating in seminars as required; and

Shares learned knowledge and skills with peers.

Other Related Responsibilities :

Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment

related to your position as well as participating in all safety-training offered through the

  • facility;
  • Adheres to Workplace Safety and health procedures, WHIMIS program; keeping current

with practices; working in a prudent and safe manner and informing other employees if

they are using unsafe work practices or equipment; and

Performs other duties as assigned

The incumbent of the position must demonstrate :

Internal communication : Frequent communications (daily / weekly) with the General

Manager and Directors of the WL Senior Management Team (SMT), and managers, and

technical specialists from other organizations. This would include interfacing with support

groups such as Waste Management program, Maintenance and Work Planning,

Engineering, Nuclear Compliance programs, etc.

The Project Manager has superior oral and written communication skills in communicating

with a variety of organizations and at a variety of levels. The Project Manager provides

direction and rigorous review of the work planning and reporting documentation.

Contributing to effective, timely reports including annual business plans, budgets, quarterly

forecasts, business line reports, and project reports including issues and actions to address.

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with peers and other sites for the purpose of collaboration on technical approaches, lessons learned and other information sharing.
  • The Project Manager is responsible for initiating, building and sustaining positive and

professional relationships with decision makers both internal and external, to effect

successful project delivery. This includes for the purposes of exchanging information,

advancing project execution, problem solving, influencing outcomes and managing risks.

The key internal relationships are with Project Controls, Strategic Planning, Programs &

Regulatory Compliance, WL Facilities, Maintenance and Work Planning, Project staff,

Decommissioning and Waste Management peers and management.

  • Effective communication skills and maintains interpersonal relationships within the service areas as well as other stakeholders;
  • Collaboration with other departments and other roles in the organization, as well as
  • contractors;
  • Maintain professionalism while having a questioning attitude;
  • Responsibilities to report all incidents, near misses and concerns in respect to the

Whiteshell Reporting Program; and

  • Abilities to work and be an integral part of a team.
  • Be a sponsor as needed

Financial Decision Making

  • The Project Manager is highly accountable for the successful delivery of a portfolio of project work with annual value of approximately $2M to $20M.
  • Ensure Project Delivery staff is focused on providing cost effective value in project delivery activities.
  • As a member of the WL Management Team, the Project Manager is expected to

proactively collaborate on site initiatives including efficiencies, management

systems and opportunities for process improvements (such as participation in

audits, self-assessments, etc.). Strategic Decision Making

The Project Manager is a member of the Management Team and in that capacity

is a safety professional, taking responsibility to ensure all work is assessed,

planned and executed safely.

  • Identify, define, and apply industry best practices as part of the continuous improvement responsibilities of the site.
  • Implement, maintain, and sustain appropriate quality and safety programs and standards in all aspects of project activities.

Problem Solving

  • Demonstrated business sense and financial knowledge to adequately plan, manage and monitor budgets to meet financial objectives.
  • The incumbent must show ability to troubleshoot situations and work with peers and other stakeholder to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and apply judgement in an environment of changing and often conflicting priorities.
  • Seek guidance and maintain a questioning attitude.

Leadership of Self and Others

  • The Project Manager has line responsibility for approximately 4 to 10 project staff (Project Professionals, Project Engineers, Project Technologist) and creates resources demand for engineers, trades, and Radiation Protection (RP) staff and other site resources (matrix organization).
  • The Project Manager is responsible for developing, recruitment and retention, training, performance management, motivating and effectively utilizing staff to achieve division objectives, and successful delivery of contract project deliverables and milestones.
  • The Project Manager has responsibility for interactions with functional resource managers to ensure sufficient and appropriate resources are secured for project work.

The Project Manager interacts with functional resource managers and human resource professionals across on policy, and system and process matters.

The WL Project scope includes project planning and execution, work planning

documentation, engineering, licensing, procurement, contract administration, radiation protection and occupational safety and health (OSH).

The Project Manager's responsibilities include project management and reporting, process development, resource management, internal project communications, and as required, commercial project support.

  • Project types include nuclear and industrial decommissioning, environmental remediation and infrastructure construction.
  • Work well under pressure with competing priorities.
  • May participate in the training and mentoring of new employees.
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to train, assist and coach others to meet project standards and achievements.

Efforts and working Conditions

The incumbent of the position must be in good physical and mental health to perform the duties of the position.

Physical and Sensory Demands

Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work

that involves bending, lifting and mobility.

Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing, respirator and

using equipment as required.

The work demands attention to project details and managing resource demand

for project work. As well, it can have demanding timeframes, conflicting priorities,

and human resource issues. It requires self-discipline, a results-oriented focus,

excellent organizational skills, diplomacy, and unwavering commitment to quality

and safety. Working Environment

The Project Manager's role is both office and field-based and requires occasional

travel.

Work in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing

including construction / decommissioning sites, contamination zones and

potentially confined spaces.

Office work environment with some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial

hazards during construction / demolition site visits.

Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from +30 C to -

40 C.

May be required to perform overtime.
