2024/2025 Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin Cree Language and Culture Teacher

Edmonton Catholic Schools offers Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin Cree Language and Culture programming at six (6) sites, serving over 800 students.

We are now accepting applications for our Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin Cree Language and Culture program for the 2024 / 2025 school year.

Applications are accepted and interviews are conducted for teaching positions throughout the calendar year. The successful candidate will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture.

With the support of a Cree Language Consultant, the successful candidate will offer practical strategies for building Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum, demonstrates approaches for teaching Indigenous learners, and are committed to building connections with Elders, Indigenous families, cultural instructors, and communities for a culturally relevant education.

All successful candidates will be hired to the 2024 / 2025 Teacher Replacement Roster. Once hired, successful candidates will have the opportunity to apply for internal contact opportunities or be placed directly into a contract position that is aligned with their credentials, based on the needs of the division.

Edmonton Catholic Schools requires all teachers (substitutes and contract teachers) to be Catholic unless specialized in the following areas :

Career and Technology Studies (CTS) and Career and Technology Foundations (CTF)

Lived Indigenous Experiences

Languages (Cree, French, Spanish, and Ukrainian)

Music (Elementary and Secondary)

Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (Must be major)

Interested candidates that have a Bachelor of Education Degree, a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate, and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture are encouraged to apply.

Two (2) Professional References Letters (Dated within the last two years)

Baptism Certificate (If applicable)
