Provides general maintenance, repair and labour services to support grounds, roads and facilities maintenance; construction and installations;

and other general maintenance and repair requirements for Parks Canada Agency.

Intent of the process

The results of this process will be used to fill potential seasonal, term / acting / assignment at level vacancies and may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the GL MAN 03 (Trail Crew Member) in the Lake Louise, Yoho & Kootenay Field Unit, in various locations, with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as : Seasonal Indeterminate, Term, Acting or Assignment-at-level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or acceptable combination of education, experience and training.

Occupational Certification

Successful completion of a 40-hour Wilderness First Aid course or higher level First Aid

Experience

  • Significant* experience working in remote areas;
  • Significant* experience working with chainsaws;
  • Providing maintenance and repairs to buildings, bridges and trails;

Experience carrying out construction tasks in a team environment.

Significant refers to a minimum of 2 years experience within the last 5 years.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the use and maintenance of light mechanized equipment;

Knowledge of trail construction and trail maintenance techniques.

Abilities

Ability to operate and maintain equipment associated with trail construction and maintenance;

Ability to contribute and work within a team environment.

Operational Requirements

  • Willingness to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks;
  • Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment;
  • Willingness to provide and wear appropriate footwear;
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays;
  • Willingness to travel and work in the Lake Louise, Yoho & Kootenay Field Unit;
  • Willingness to assist in forest fire suppression, including stand-by and extra duty, if required;
  • Extensive physical effort required to hike and / or work for prolonged periods of time;
  • Be exposed to potential for injury when performing trail maintenance activities;
  • Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others;

Must be able to live and work up to 10 (days) duration in a remote location, and in varied weather conditions

Willingness to complete a certified chainsaw course.
