Homewood’s Program for Older Adults provides specialized care to older adults in Guelph-Wellington who are coping with a crisis, with dementia or with mood disorders.
We combine expertise in geriatric psychiatry with a team of clinicians who have years of experience in treating the unique needs of older adults.
As a Research Assistant within the Program for Older Adults, you will be an integral part of a collaborative, inter-disciplinary team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers.

Hours of Work : Part-Time, 5 days a week, 24 hours per week.
Under the direction of the POA Psychiatrist, Dr. Atul Sunny Luthra, MD, MSc. Pharmacology, FRCPC, as Research Assistant, you will participate in the coordination, implementation and maintenance of assigned program evaluation and research activities.
What you'll be doing
- Advocate for and support biosocial research for understanding behaviors in dementia / major neurocognitive disorders through research and communications
- Facilitate face-to-face, phone and electronic data collection with participants who are either currently receiving, or have received, inpatient treatment for mental health and / or addictions
- Travel to various nursing homes and long-term care facilities to help network, support, and communicate the research goals
- Assist with website management and developing social media presence
- Develop and manage a LinkedIn strategy to connect with industry professionals, stakeholders and potential collaborators to share research findings and treatment guidelines
- Utilize social media platforms to increase interest and awareness in guidelines and treatment algorithms for dementia and major neurocognitive disorders
- Implement digital marketing strategies to engage with a broader audience and disseminate research findings
- Work independently, implementing detailed protocols with minimal supervision
- Collate, collect and gather data into various reporting metrics
- Write, proofread and edit a variety of materials such as correspondence, forms, reports, documents, agendas, minutes and presentation / workshop materials
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Psychology, Gerontology or a related field
- Process knowledge on how to create and post engaging LinkedIn content, including articles, updates and multimedia, to raise awareness about the program's guidelines and treatment algorithms for dementia and neurocognitive disorders
- Experience, knowledge and sensitivity in working with consumers of mental health and addiction services is an asset
- High level of professionalism and discretion for materials containing highly sensitive and confidential information
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to quickly establish rapport with participants, team members and stakeholders both in person and on the phone
- Proficiency utilizing social media platforms for professional purposes, including content creation and audience engagement
- Ability to think critically and analytically and problem solve to reach effective solutions
- Planning, organizing, project management skills, as well as meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated competency using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Microsoft Access, statistical software and online survey software is considered an asset
- Experience with digital marketing tools and techniques is a plus
