Job Description
As a Toolmaker – Machine Tool Builder and Integrator in the Proof of Principle Execution team, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary group to anticipate, identify, and mitigate technical and process risks. Your work will focus on understanding and defining requirements, and applying a systematic approach to problem‑solving to ensure solutions meet customer performance specifications.

Machine, fit and assemble component parts and precision tooling with a quality and timely focus to build special‑purpose machinery, robotic work cells and factory automation solutions.Set up and operate various machine tools, such as manual lathes and small mills, and apply knowledge of mechanisms, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures to support the assembly team.Attend assigned project kick‑off meetings, review scope of work, budget and schedule.Participate and lead in defining the requirements and concepts for Proof of Principle projects, ensuring an “outside the box” approach.Attend design reviews to critique design for functionality and robustness.Review drawing packages at the detail level for fit, function and manufacturability.Support the needs of the manufacturing department when questions arise.Ensure that all print updates are completed as required.Prioritize and track purchased parts and machined details by assembly in conjunction with Inventory Control.Bench assembly, completing any pre‑housing and involving electrical to pre‑wire.Advise designers of any design issues and collaborate with the team to resolve; Escalate unresolved issues as required.Assist in testing activities related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization if applicable.Contribute to test plans for prototypes and either execute the test plan or support others that are performing the test plan.Perform rework efficiently to ensure minimal impact to budget and schedule.Coordinate and participate in tear‑down and restocking of the POP equipment.Support creation of labour, material and execution plans for POP projects.Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.Maintain a 5S environment.Travel to support POP execution.These responsibilities are subject to change as assigned.Skills
Understand the manufacture of details, review tolerances on prints, understand GD&T and where to apply.Practical knowledge of the operation of all toolroom equipment.Able to deal with a high degree of unknowns up front as challenges are often being solved for the first time.Adapt quickly to new learnings from prototypes and incorporate findings into solutions.

Education : Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or Tool and Die Maker or equivalent.Experience : Completion of a Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certification of Qualification in the above-mentioned trades; two years hands‑on experience in integrating and assembly of custom factory automation.Additional Information
