The seeks applications for a tenure-track position in the field of Assessment and Evaluation in Education at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will begin between January 1, 2026-July 1, 2026 (start date to be negotiated). Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) focused on Assessment and Evaluation in Education by the start of the appointment. We encourage scholars with interests across the education continuum (, early childhood, K–12, postsecondary, and adult education) to apply. Applicants with strong quantitative and/or mixed methods research skills are particularly welcome.

The Position

We are seeking a colleague with strong team-based skills and a collaborative approach to teaching and learning. This position is a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor; the job responsibilities reflect those described in the . The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research culture of Ontario Tech through the development of an active research program that attracts research funding and cultivates exciting learning and training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching assignments will include both on-campus and online courses; applicants will be expected to contribute to in-person, on-campus life at the downtown campus of Ontario Tech in Oshawa, ON and bring knowledge, experience, and expertise teaching in online learning environments. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development and administration of the Faculty and University through active committee membership as part of their service commitments.

The Ideal Candidate

Ontario Tech seeks to appoint a scholar in the field of Assessment and Evaluation in Education. Research in the Frazer Faculty of Education is characterized by a strong focus on integrating technology in education, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to education, developing innovative approaches to assessment and evaluation (including those that foster community engagement for social change), and exploring innovative and rigorous measures of the impact of digital technologies (such as AI) on teaching and learning.

We seek applicants whose areas of interest contribute to and build on the strengths of our Faculty with research focused on (but not limited to) areas such as:

  • Innovative approaches to educational assessment ( classroom assessment in K-12 or higher education contexts)
  • Innovative approaches to program evaluation ( community and social program evaluation)
  • Technology-enhanced feedback, assessment and/or program evaluation (including data science, AI, AR/VR applications, digital assessment)
  • Developing equitable and inclusive assessment and evaluation processes that recognize diversity of learners
  • Non-traditional approaches to assessment and evaluation ( culturally responsive, community-engaged, arts-based, or experiential approaches)
  • Large-scale assessment and evaluation in the context of language assessment, educational equity, improvement, and/or advancement
  • Partnerships for innovative evaluation with industry, community, government, and academic collaborators

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct active and innovative research programs and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) focused on Assessment and Evaluation in Education; a strong academic background; and an established record of excellence in innovative and scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications. Candidates must also demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions. In addition, candidates should possess excellent English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.

The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.

Successful candidates must:

  • Have research skills in qualitative and/or quantitative and/or mixed methods research; quantitative skills are an asset
  • Have an emerging record of high-quality publications (or forthcoming publications) in significant journals
  • Demonstrate a history of successful research funding commensurate with their career stage
  • Demonstrate potential for exemplary teaching, graduate supervision, and training
  • Potential to cultivate and lead equitable, diverse, and inclusive approaches to interdisciplinary research partnerships and/or community engagement
  • EEmbody a commitment to knowledge mobilization via academic conferences, publications, and other non-academic activities that connect research to practice and/or policy

The Frazer Faculty of Education

The Frazer Faculty of Education has undergraduate programs (Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies) and online graduate programs (Master of Education, Master of Arts [Education], and Doctor of Education).The faculty is known for its technology-driven approach to education, including integrating digital technologies into classroom practice, encouraging the use of multiple forms of technology and digital literacy, preparing teachers and graduate students to be leaders in using emerging technologies.

The Faculty has a vibrant research community, with faculty members involved in various research areas that integrate and assess the impact of rapidly emerging digital technologies. It houses several specialized research labs including:

The Application Process

  • Comprehensive research plan detailing a research program, including strategies to develop externally funded research grants and/or contracts, engage knowledge mobilization activities, and contribute to the development and training of graduate students (maximum 5 pages)
  • Teaching statement emphasizing teaching philosophy, teaching interests, teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations, research mentorship experience, and a summary of teaching evaluation data where available (maximum 5 pages).We recognize that new scholars might not have formally taught courses and/or supervised graduate students; however, a plan of how you might approach these areas will be considered
  • Two of the applicant’s most influential publications (or other research contributions) focused on Assessment and Evaluation

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
