Support CPKC’s incident investigations through material, metallurgical, and failure testing and analysis, including derailment and component failure investigations
Support regulatory body investigation requests
Perform component teardown inspections per Association of American Railways (AAR) requirements
Drive business case developments for new processes and technologies to enhance investigation capabilities and laboratory productivity
Support the development, selection, and validation of new technologies to improve railway safety and efficiency
Maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment
Adhere to CPKC’s health and safety policy
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Material, Civil Engineering, or related field, with eligibility for Engineer in Training registration; considered an asset
Knowledge and experience in material sciences, metallurgy, destructive and non-destructive testing and analysis methods is required
Proficient in data extraction from diverse systems for root cause analysis and identifying component trends indicating manufacturing defects
Ability to suggest improvements and enhancements for IT systems, manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to varied tasks, innovate, and showcase strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office; welding, railway component knowledge, SAP / ERP and Python experience, and CAD skills are beneficial
Capable of creating clear reports for management
Experience working with and around large equipment, cranes etc. in safety sensitive and safety critical environments
Available for occasional travel and after-hours calls
