Job Overview
Under the direction and supervision of the Director, Operational Audits, the Internal Auditor is responsible for planning and conducting audits of operational functions to assess the adequacy of internal controls, the overall effectiveness of operations and to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Conducts complex and detailed audits and advisory reviews for a variety of operational functions throughout the organization.
- Performs complex audit procedures, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence and documenting processes and procedures.
- Conducts interviews, reviews documents, and prepares final working papers.
- Identifies and documents complex issues and develops recommendations using independent judgement.
- Communicates results using written reports and oral presentations to senior management.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with internal clients and various stakeholders.
- Represents Internal Audit on project teams and at management meetings.
- Assists with the development of the department's annual audit plan.
- Pursues professional development opportunities and association memberships.
- Assists with conducting special review on an ad-hoc basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Operational Audits
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years internal or external auditing experience preferably in Property & Casualty and / or Life insurance experience.
- Professional auditing or accounting designation (CIA, CPA) considered a strong asset.
- Insurance related experience considered an asset
- Experience related to the operations of Insurance Brokerages considered an asset
- Experience with data analytics and visualization tools considered an asset
- Ability to travel periodically within Canada.
- Strong analytical / problem solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational / time management skills, including ability to meet project deadlines.
- Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to present issues in a convincing manner.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and concise audit reports.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
