What you’ll do:
Key Job Responsibilities:

- Prepare and coordinate period end and year-end financial statements
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other reconciliations.
- Ensure financials complies with relevant accounting standards.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, amortization, and other adjustments.
- Review general ledger accounts for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
- Maintain supporting schedules, including fixed assets, inventory, and other key accounts.
- Assist with annual budget preparation by gathering and analyzing relevant financial data.
- Perform variance analysis and provide clear explanations to management.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and financial controls.
- Work closely with commodity and departmental managers to understand business lines and explain financial results.
- Support internal and external auditing requirements, including preparation of working papers and documentation.
- Respond to auditor inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare GST, PST, Motor Fuel Tax, and other statutory filings as required.
- Support project tracking and financial monitoring.
- Perform cost and margin analysis to support profitability assessment and decision-making.
- Conduct inventory analysis and investigations to identify discrepancies, trends, and control issues.
- Support special projects and process improvement initiatives; make recommendations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
- Work independently on assigned tasks while exercising sound judgment to escalate issues as appropriate.
- Ensure an exceptional level of service is provided.
- Adhere to and enforce all Dawson Co-operative Union policies and procedures.
- Adhere to and enforce all Dawson Co-operative Union health and safety standards per the Health and Safety manual.
- Plan for self-development and take initiative to improve own knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Who are you:
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a focus in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, and financial close processes.
- Proficiency in accounting systems, with a preference for experience with JD Edwards, and software systems, such as Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Class Five driver’s license with a clean abstract.
- Ability to undergo and receive clearance for a criminal records check.
- Satisfactory credit report / history.
